Only a couple of people ever gave me stick about the subject I chose to study, and they all ended up in dead end jobs so Im not too worried about that. About half of my friends have a masters. People are sometimes surprised about mine because I did it for myself rather than for my career. While not being useful for any common job, it does meet the requirements for jobs that ask only of the applicant has a a degree. Someone actually involved with or paying vigorous attention to a literary art scene (film and television as well) could do critic work in those areas. I'm not going to disagree; it was really hard. No grade inflation in engineering classes, and definitely no "Gentleman's C".
