She announced her departure and only left for like a year or two. Then she went straight back. Could she just not get much work as a comedian? I know she was in Barbie, but thats about all I can recall.

She may just enjoy doing it at her own pace, instead of a full time commitment.

Yes, but that was sort of "sequel" to the alien abduction sketch, which also had Gosling. They've brought people back for stuff like that before.

She probably just has a very good working relationship with them and likes to come back to play certain characters, like Maya Rudolph does here and there.

I mean, that was a pretty famous recurring bit. People would have been super disappointed if they didn't do a new one.

While we're on the subject of SNL, while the majority of the show can be incredibly hit or miss, am I the only one that absolutely loves the Please Don't Destroy stuff? I know it's silly, but, dammit, sometimes I just want silly humor.

Yep, and that's exactly what I wanted out of it. I didn't care for a "good" movie, a logical plot, etc. and so on. I just wanted bare minimum "turn your brain off, giggle and laugh" humor, and it delivered, just like their skits.

Sometimes, it's nice to have that, once a week, which is why I appreciate their skits so much.

She wants attention so much that she... Appears on SNL, about once every several months...? If it was truly about attention, wouldn't she still be on the cast so that she could appear every week?

She does other things as well.
but if you ever read about the making of Ghostbusters, the girl one, it was her trying to get all the attention and one up everyone acting more and more absurd and steal all the spotlight which made main leads hate working on the movie and miserable.
if you watch the movie knowing that in advance you can see it every other scene about

This literally doesn't make sense, since a large part of the cast (three of the four Ghostbusters) were... Literally SNL people. Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, and Kristen Wiig were all from SNL. Do you have a source for this?

That's the term I was looking for! Yes, thank you. Sometimes, I just love absurdist humor.

One of my all time favorite skits was when they got Zoe Kravitz a cat because she played Catwoman, and they keep losing it. And it's just... So fucking stupid, but I love the hell out of it.

No I read it a few times years ago. Wiig hated her trying to steal every scene, Im sure its easy to find. I think it was reported on a bit.
like if you watch the movie you see it. The stars look completely miserable at times when they shouldnt be and then in more serious moments and scenes Kate is in the background or around doing ridiculous stuff when her character has nothing to do with the scene,
they improvised lots of the movie so she was like just showing up and butting in times she never was supposed to.

I feel like you read too far into things. Her character was supposed to be an exaggerated version of Egon, aka the "quirky" one, which is why she was always doing ridiculous stuff in the background. All of the main characters played incredibly exaggerated references to the Ghostbusters from the main movies.
