Hope Bethesda learns from this and doesn't release a stinker for TES6

Isn't Starfield a single player game? Isn't a steep decline in players over time expected of pretty much any single player game? I'm not sure I get this. Like I'm not sure single player games care how long people play past the initial purchase.

Right but TC specifically referenced Bethesda. The truth is Bethesda doesn't give a shit how long people play their single player games because the only money they see is from the initial purchase. That's the part that confuses me. Skyrim having a higher player count makes sense since it regularly goes on sale for like $5 and has been modded out the wazoo, but that doesn't actually mean anything to the publisher, themselves.

20K+ are playing Skyrim Special Edition right now

Bethesda games generally have legs. With the game crashing as hard as it is, this probably affects DLC plans. Also I doubt we'll see it ported 50 billion times like Skyrim and Fallout 4 (98K)

Skyrim and Fallout 4 are much older games by the same studio, single player and all, and they've never had an average this low in their entire history on steam charts.

Skyrim has been out for over a decade and costs pennies and runs on lower end hardware.

Skyrim had well above 10,000 players even 2-3 years after release it didn't dip below 10,000 6 months after release

My point is I don't think the publisher cares because they know people will eat their shit up regardless

Skyrim has a peak Steam player count of 69k. Starfield has a peak of 330k.

Aka Bethesda got their money, and they know they can get it again

I'm not saying this to defend Starfield. My point is it's too early to think this means anything to Bethesda. We won't know if it does unless we see what happens if they release DLC, for example. We also don't know how many people are playing on Game Pass that may impact the Steam numbers.

Basically, what I'm saying is it's naive to think this will "teach" Bethesda anything.

They've been releasing the same game with a new coat of paint for like 20 years. I knew saving this meme was the right call:

Game Pass did not exist then. PC players had no real choice other than Steam.

I knew I sure as shit wasn't gonna spend $60 or $70 or whatever on Starfield on Steam after the turd that was Skyrim when I have a perfectly good Game Pass sub.

Reputation matters. Yea, game sales are front loaded, but it's not like ongoing sales don't matter You think that 44% steam user score and all the negative sentiment and the lack of mods because the modders hate the game isn't hurting sales?

If Fallout 76 didn't hurt sales, then yeah, I'm not sure this will.
