It is. He called soldiers who gave their lives for their country "suckers" and "losers", wondering why they would serve when "there's nothing in it for them." He also skipped a ceremony in France honoring veterans of World War 1 because he didn't want the rain messing up his hair. He also insisted he not be photographed with military amputees because "it doesn't look good for me." He also denigrated POWs and suggested soldiers suffering from PTSD were weak. He also used Memorial Day as an occasion to hawk his MAGA merchandise.

But somehow his supporters have convinced themselves that he supports the troops.

I was in the comments section on IG for the BBC's video on Zelensky and a WWII veteran calling each other heroes for protecting Europe (on D Day anniversary) and my word the amount of anti-Zelensky comments in there. I know I shouldn't be shocked, but damn does it suck.

The video itself was heartwarming, Zelensky seems like such a genuine and down to earth dude. I hate seeing him be shit on because of Russian propaganda and/or trolls because he's standing up to Putin's insatiable bloodlust.

It's not just Russian trolls, though.

On the other side of the world Russia is a very important economic figure for many nations and so have a much closer relationship with them than "the west", both economically and socio-politically. They get Russian messaging foisted upon them far more commonly than Western narratives. The problem is it's hard to tell who is a Russian troll and who is genuinely a say Indian person who genuinely believes Russia's side on everything because Russia & India have a pretty strong bond.

So far I haven't had any friends/family members express anti-Zelensky sentiments cause I'd shut that shit down hard.

In that comments section there were multiple people referring to him as a "beggar", one comment saying: "Zelensky and Netanyahu; two of the world's greatest beggars!" from a verified account. I was pretty pissed off that he'd dare to mention both of them in the same sentence, let alone separated by a single word.

Which perhaps I shouldn't put any stock in a verified account on IG (don't know what it takes to become one, though I know you need to be more than just some rando posting about your daily life), still that was some of the more tame anti-Zelensky comments.

i can see that stuff being relatively useful on tanks, put some distance between the explosion and the armor, but that aint doing shit on a soft target

This is the exact same pathological aggression that Israelis have towards Palestinians and the rationale that their government use to justify the 17-year illegal blockade of over 2 million people and commit mass murder of women and children. If we enact harsh enough punishment on the civilian population eventually it will cause them to overthrow their oppressive rulers.

Not only does this not work, it's counter-productive as it only reinforces the enemy's propaganda narrative, makes the population hate you and pushes them further into the arms of their authoritarian rulers who rely on using external threats (whether actual or perceived) to bolster nationalist ideologies, justify their own claims to power and crackdown on political dissent. Totalitarian regimes use fear to control people. Punishing the population (especially one that has virtually no democratic rights) often just reinforces that fear and leads people to seek the protection offered by authoritarian strongmen.

Yeah, Ukraine should go full berserk mode and invade Russia when it is outnumbered 7-1 on the battlefield and cannot even break the deadlock in it's own country. russia started a war of aggression by invading ukraine and is currently still waging a genocidal war in ukraine. peace is prefferable, but anything less than russia fully withdrawing would just be appeasement bullshit that already failed in ukraine and has historically always failed in geopolitics.

ukraine is a sovereign nation and their position is that any peace will require full russian withdrawl from all occupied territory.

appeasement didnt work when neville chamberlain tried it and it didnt work when the world let russia take the crimea. russia will just rebuild its forces and invade again if their illegal war isnt crushed in its tracks.

if ukraine is willing to fight for the survival of their nation and autonomy the world should be willing to support them in every material way possible. if russia is allowed to take what they want both recent and world history has shown that they will just move on to the next thing they covet and start the process over again

Russia has broken pretty much every treaty they ever made, so no
peace negotiation is something they only ever do when they think they're gonna lose, and it only lasts until they think they might win. so the only way to get a peace that lasts is make sure they are unable to make threaths for years to come, whether by lack of gear, weapons, political power or people
