They had issues with the light lamps as well as other things that look more Chinese than Japanese apparently.

As I mentioned in the other topic it is indeed the case that the floor is very wrong in that scene. They also shouldn't be sitting in seiza. Most people don't understand the differences between eras in the West. To be frank though, Ghosts of Tsushima had far more egregious historical inaccuracies, so I don't think it's that big of an issue. It will still sell well. It's currently the best selling PS5 game on Japanese Amazon and that's a preorder (all the other games near the top are actually out).

I mean, it's historical fiction. They aren't going for 100% accuracy and never have.

edit: at least this looks to be one of those cosmetic things that can be changed before the game's release, if Ubi cares about being historically accurate

The games are not some bastion of historical accuracy. So people nitpicking shit just so they can continue being racist about the black protagonist is just sad.

This is why companies need to hire consultants who have in-depth knowledge of certain cultures.

doesn't everything in ac take place in some animus thing so it's really just a computerized projection, thus you can really blame abstergo and not ubisoft

I don't mind people nitpicking aspects of feudal Japan, but whether you're the waifish girl or the black samurai, you're going to jump out of trees and tall grass to facestab mooks for XP, all while carrying 500 pounds of guns, bombs, throwing stars, and technological gadgets. Y'know, period-appropriate things. It seems weird to hone in on tatami mat geometry as an exposed flaw, lol.

But anyway, just being an Ubisoft game is already good cause for a wait-and-see approach. Maybe they'll learn a few lessons from Ghost of Tsushima, which had some decent action. I know there's a lot of sleeper fans of Onimusha, so when you see Yusuke (or his analog) swinging that huge spiked club, that's gotta tickle a few fancies, haha.

The real problem is that one would even care about Ubisoft in current year.

There was a time when Ubi dare to boasts that they got their historical facts so correct that they will aid in the reconstruction of Notre Dame cathedral by offering the data they have scanned of the real thing for Unity.

Or how they offer a free educational mode DLC for Origins and Odyssey.

Type of salute, uniform, insignias, and equipment standards among our militaries would get called out. US actually works with the CoD guys to bring accuracy (and propaganda standards) up to par.

Do Japanese gamers even play non-Japanese games these days? I know a lot of Western games don't even get sold there because there's no market. Ubisoft probably just has no incentive to be fussy about details.

They get stuff wrong all the time, they literally had an Italian guy go "It'sa me! Mario!"

They even make fun of the inaccuraces in the game's own lore. The Animus not synching correctly with actual historical events.

You can't claim to be showing history but with a fantastical twist while at the same time using said fantastical twist as a shield against all criticism.

The right way: So yeah [thing] thing is inaccurate because blah blah blah. Just worth pointing out if anyone cares.

By far the most offensive thing Ubi has done is pushing a 130 dollar version of the game but hasn't shown ANY gameplay yet.
