Oh can't I?

*celebrates Trump being proven to be exactly what he is, a felon*

Hmmm, seems to be working for me? I'll try again.

*celebrates Don the Con being found guilty on all 34 counts*

Huh, still working. Maybe for trumpers it was user error? Remember, thinking and problem solving isn't their strong point.

There's no value judgement there at all -- its a straight up factual report.

Ands that's still enough to trigger the deplorables.

They usually just parrot whatever bullshit their parents have told them and join fraternities with other kids who believe the same things (and also had shitty parents) so they can continue telling themselves what theyre saying is correct.

What I find funny is that all of them look evil, and very much alike. The Brock Turner special.

Is it that that's an inherently evil look that they seem to gravitate towards? Or is it perhaps that it's just perceived as "looking evil" because a lot of evil people have looked like that?

Felony stigma is real, its similar to the body shaming argument we had earlier today. But felonies cant hold jobs while serving their sentence, theyll treat Trump as a special status felon if he wins the presidency since being in jail doesnt prevent you from being president. So hes not really suffering from felony stigma

I definitely have felt the same misgivings about jeering about Trumps status as a felon, not because I care about Trump (if I posted the things I felt should happen to Trump Id surely be banned in a heartbeat) but because holding up that attitude towards felons is harmful to those felons who are just trying to get their lives back together and be productive members of society. Like we are still fighting for the right of felons to be able to vote in some states, and some self-proclaimed progressives are throwing those same movements and people under the bus so they can play respectability politics.

I dont feel strongly enough about this to bother posting in any of the topics about it, or to bother making a topic of my own, but it doesnt sit right with me. Its the same feeling I get when people cheer about bad things happening in red states because they deserve it for being under Republican control.

A felon after they've served their time and Trump who is pre-sentencing aren't the same thing.

How did you feel when George Floyd's killer went to jail? To me that felt like justice that I didn't think would happen. Cheering that justice worked is an OK thing to do, albeit insensitive to the guy's family, but at that moment I was more concerned with George Floyd's family. Cheering here, that a guilty man was found guilty, is cheering the justice system.

The main thing that will screw Trump over is once hes sentenced and officially becomes a convicted felon he can no longer associate with other felons.

Which include a lot of his former staffers, many of his lawyers, most of the insurrections he brings up at his rallies, and Roger Stone.

Actually, the biggest problem is a portion of this country wants a convicted felon to be President.

Say what you want about felons working themselves back into society, I personally don't think one should be POTUS, but that's me.

I mean most lose their gun rights, yet this one could have control of nukes? No fucking thank you.

Definitely, and I agree also with David1988s point that Trump will absolutely suffer no felony stigma as a result of his conviction. Thats not really my issue.

I dont at all mind people feeling relief, or even joy at the result of the trial. But a strong sentiment coming from the Democratic side for this election cycle is that you cant seriously vote for Trump, because he is a criminal. And a lot of the emphasis on Trump being titled convicted felon is related directly to that desire to score a political victory, for lack of a better term. If it was just about justice being served, Im all for it. He deserves worse. But it isnt just about that. And its the other stuff that its about that rubs me the wrong way, a little bit.

Let's not be too scrupulous here. Trump is a convicted felon, Trump being a felon can and absolutely should be used for maximum political advantage in an election where Trump's chance of winning is far too high.
