I definitely have felt the same misgivings about jeering about Trumps status as a felon, not because I care about Trump (if I posted the things I felt should happen to Trump Id surely be banned in a heartbeat) but because holding up that attitude towards felons is harmful to those felons who are just trying to get their lives back together and be productive members of society. Like we are still fighting for the right of felons to be able to vote in some states, and some self-proclaimed progressives are throwing those same movements and people under the bus so they can play respectability politics.

I dont feel strongly enough about this to bother posting in any of the topics about it, or to bother making a topic of my own, but it doesnt sit right with me. Its the same feeling I get when people cheer about bad things happening in red states because they deserve it for being under Republican control.

Think about it this way my guy; it's not celebrating that he's being labeled a "bad guy" so we can feel superior to him. It's celebrating that he's seeing consequences for his actions, that the rule of law is being applied fairly.

Let's not be too scrupulous here. Trump is a convicted felon, Trump being a felon can and absolutely should be used for maximum political advantage in an election where Trump's chance of winning is far too high.

I dont necessarily disagree with you on this point, but Im a bit skeptical that these tactics actually give any real political advantage, versus the potential harm that supporting the stigmatization of felons causes. Maybe Im too cynical in this regard but it feels like at this point anyone who was still on the Trump train isnt going to be swayed (or even demoralized) by the outcome of this trial.

Eh, to be fair, a lot of these alts belong to more "long standing" users here who are just more careful about what they post, and thus they probably do inevitably have a few more alts to run with.

It's not hard to notice certain older accounts have been showing up in topics recently to defend/agree with the accounts that are getting suspended, so it basically comes down to how many alts they actually have.

Yes, actually. Entirely. You post so little, yet felt the need to suddenly post in this topic with the takes you have decided to post, and said takes basically now make up a majority of your active posts.

I actually agree, I don't like how it's being used here as if it's right to throw felons out of society and they're some type of uniquely evil, permanently horrible people. I think this will lead to a lot of awful statements. I don't know if it's have a wider effect on people's feelings towards people with criminal histories. I've always cared about this issue.

That said, fuck Donald Trump x 10000000. He deserves all the negative consequences that could possibly come from this and deserves nothing good ever. It's possible to have restorative justice for actually poor, black and brown, immigrant, disabled, and LGBT people while also dancing on Trump's grave. That's what I plan to advocate for.

Just the entire Internet. I just listened to the Pod Save America episode reacting to the verdict and they were focusing on the felon aspect. Here, the "More Topics" thing below this post has four topics in a row with the following titles:

Convicted felon Donald Trump
Will you be voting for convicted felon Donald Trump
Twice impeached, two-time popular vote losing convicted felon Donald J. Trump
Donald Trump is a felon.

I think there's a way to talk about what he did, the fact that he was convicted by an impartial jury on 34 counts, the fact that he's fundamentally unfit for office in part because of this conviction, without just saying "felon felon felon" as if the felon status is what makes him unfit.

Well, like I said, I had thought about sharing this sentiment in any of the other numerous topics celebrating Trumps (correct) conviction, but didnt feel it was worth potentially disrupting those. This topic, however, since it was expressing pretty much the same thing I was feeling, felt like a more natural place to chime in. Normally people dont reply to my posts, so when I do post its usually just one post with no or little follow up. Here, though, people are replying to me, and I generally try to respond to people who are replying to my posts in good faith, unless I already have them tagged as some flavor of bigot I dont wish to engage with.

Another example is that Eugene Debs was convicted of a very serious felony and served 10 years in federal ass prison. He ran for office from a prison cell. And yet he was more fit for office than anyone since then. The felon status isn't what matters, it's the fact that Trump is a plutocratic fascist who used his money to deceive the public.

Agreed. I was going to bring up Debs, myself. He was literally convicted under the Sedition Act for encouraging people to dodge the draft during World War 1. A true hero, and an undeniable, unabashed criminal.

Pretty disgusting what you're trying to do, however Trump isn't even precluded per FL law because it's not a state conviction.

Imo felons should retain their vote for any and everything unless their crimes are politically related. I wouldn't want someone who ballot harvested like in NC or Trump who stole an election by preventing information from reaching the public 2 weeks from the election to be able to proceed with the electoral process.

However, since any exception will be used to make every exception, logically I must also support retaining hteir right to vote, even if I personally feel like only that group should lose it.
