More just like, relaxing the rule for non-game social boards, I would say. For me personally I'd say the "Containment Topic" model could be the way forward for all of the non-CE social boards, like PotD etc.

i mean it's a good model that works. sure there's the oddball event that happens which is so big it's not "politics" but just outright general news but still. or of course, things that intertwine with politics like, say, the primary business model of gaming when companies like Ubisoft are playing up the "you will own nothing and be happy" dystopia and countries with different laws and regulations are a necessary component of that discussion.

Yeah I think it's the best way to balance Fandom's insane bullshit with allowing some discussion.

Keep in mind all week we've heard about how Biden has weaponized the DoJ against Trump over this case.

And yet on Monday his son is facing felony firearm charges actually brought about by the DoJ.

The cope seems to be that Trump only got indicted for crimes that werent even that bad because he was "found innocent" of other bigger crimes.

It is true that criminal prosecution of a former president is a step down a slippery slope. And of the multitude of charges facing Trump, these seem to be the weakest. Whether or not Ford pardoning Nixon was the right call, it was a coherent decision. Hochul pardoning Trump of these charges would likewise have its merits.

But Nixon resigned in disgrace and then stayed out of politics. After Nixon, moving on was actually an option. Trump, on the other hand, continues to spew lies about the election he lost, remains the kingmaker in the Republican party, and - of course - is running for President again. Whether or not Democrats and independents wish to move on from Trump, Republicans have not given them that choice.

And, of course, even if Hochul did pardon Trump of his NY offenses, he'd still be facing trial for federal and Georgia crimes.

Although I will say. If Trump is sentenced to jail time (which I do not expect; white collar crimes, rich white guy, etc) I would look favorably upon Hochul for commuting that to house arrest, to avoid the awkward situation of housing the Secret Service in a jail. If Trump is sentenced to jail time to be served during campaign season, or actually manages to achieve the Presidency while still expected to serve time in a NY prison, I would look unfavorably on her for not doing so. I think that if we get the terrible, terrible situation of the Republican Party and a smattering of independents electing a man who is in state prison (for nonviolent crimes) to the office of the Presidency, NY should be willing to let him go free.

But even then I would favor clemency, not a pardon. Inmate Trump would be released not because his crimes had been forgiven, but because the American people had - however unwisely - entrusted him with responsibilities of greater import.

The optics of a sitting president serving jail time is bad.

The optics of a sitting president not serving jail time solely because people elected him is horrendous.
