Only the tiny babies travel on the wind like that, the adults just crawl around. The adults may let the wind take their line then cross it when it anchors someplace, though.

Does anyone have a picture of a young one? I saw a spider today cleaning my siding, and it had the right colors and stripes, but it was a lot smaller than the pictures I've seen. Maybe a little bigger than a quarter from leg to leg, and with a much rounder body. Is that how they start, before they grow into... that?

Bruh, thats simply where theyve most recently been confirmed to be a new addition to the local fauna, as theyve been making the rounds up and down the eastern United States since 2014 last I checked. Good thing theyre a good spider and only eat actual destructive pests by the way.

They spread by floating when they're young n' tiny, so it's possible it reached you and is just starting to grow.
