Gonna be a remaster-a-thon, probably. Wind Waker and/or Twilight Princess! FE4 remake! Metroid Prime 2 and possibly MP3! Dragon Quest 3/trilogy remake! Not sure what else. Hopefully Square has another fun surprise.

This would rule but I think at best we get RBY. Its possible they drag this out and only give us Red and Blue.

I think if Pokemon mainline was coming to NSO, it would've happened already.

Ehhh theres still a lot of big games missing from the Game Boy NSO. I feel Pokmon will likely happen eventually, just like it eventually made it into the Virtual Console back in the day.

It took much longer than this (comparatively considering NSO just starting getting GB games about 16 months ago) for them to come to 3DS VC.

GB and GBA NSO are both missing a lot of major first party games. Plenty of potential for additions there. Would like to see the Wario Land series completed, personally.

Re-releases could happen, but I think they'd want to keep it compatible with Home, and I imagine that would be really hard to incorporate into the NSO app.

Maybe theyll update Genesis on NSO which is 1 year now without a game added lol

All 0 of the good Genesis games are already on NSO.

I wouldn't consider NSO additions to be "major," at least nothing that couldn't be announced in a general Direct.

I have a feeling Live a Live 2 is going to be announced and maybe a Mario Odyssey 2 tease. Would Odyssey 2 for Holiday 2024 be that crazy considering Nintendo's strategy to announce games 4-6 months before they release now?

I mean Odyssey came out in 2017!

I think they'll wait until the next console for the next major 3D Mario platformer.

I could see a Galaxy 2 port, though.

Again, it was more than four years before they came to 3DS VC. It hasn't even been a year and a half for NSO.

Probably held off since the 3DS shop was still up for a while and could potentially still see some classic Pokemon game sales to make money. I dunno if Id ever expect a real Pokemon game to be on NSO

I mean I have all the Xeno games already but Id need to find a decent CRT and hook up my PS2 for saga to look right whereas I have my Wii U ready to go in my home office already.

Wait for Switch 2 for Xenoblade X imo. Probably wouldn't run great on Switch.

I believe they specifically said Saga and Gears aren't happening ever (Saga for sure, can't remember if there was something SPECIFIC about Gears or if that was an assumption based on licensing issues.

Specifically, Harada from Namco said they considered doing Xenosaga remasters and decided not to because it wouldn't make money.

(of course, I have to assume they'd make more money than Baten Kaitos remasters, so I'm guessing Nintendo invested in the latter)

Who has the rights to Xenogears, wouldn't it be Square? Surely it can't be more complicated than SMRPG's licensing, which they just did a remake of. After Live a Live I wouldn't be surprised to see a HD-2D remake of Gears in that vein!

Yeah, they do.

Xenogears is in kind of a weird spot. Takahashi finally struck gold with Xenoblade Chronicles. That series is a.) profitable; b.) iconic to the Nintendo image; c.) 15 years old and counting.

None of this means Square Enix can't remaster or even remake Xenogears, of course. But I wouldn't be surprised to learn they're just kind of apprehensive about the whole arrangement outside of the rare merchandise runs.

The other thing is, legacy IP revisits at Square have long been dictated in no small part by who among the senior staff happens to be pushing for it.

Take SaGa - Akitoshi Kawazu clearly has a passion for it, and that passion keeps it going, even with the notably slim budgets involved. Koichi Ishii left Square ages ago, but when a new mainline Mana game was announced for the first time in ages, it was simultaneously revealed that the series' creator would be deeply involved in its production. Live A Live's remake would never have happened if Takashi Tokita hadn't been trying to make it so for years and years.

I want a Xenogears remake so bad I can taste it, but I'm not sure there's anyone with major pull at the company anymore who would champion its cause, and that's before all the other issues involved with this. At this point, I'd settle for a re-release more recent than the friggin' PS3.

yeah a well-running xenogears port would almost be better news than a remake
