Been awhile since I saw that one, but I didn't find it all that creepy. It's basically a zombie version of The Fly without the teleporters or fly transformations (hell, I wouldn't be surprised if The Fly was one of the major inspirations for the movie.) I mean, the rotting is unsettling, but that's it, and it's definitely too gross for some people (at one point the protagonist's pus-caked fingernail falls into a customer's salad-- or was it pasta?) I didn't find Triangle to be that unsettling, either. Oh, wait, yes I did -- the part that depicted child abuse.

At any rate, this is the full list of movies that I recommend. (Reposted this because I forgot one)
--Annihilation (even if you don't find most of the movie unsettling, it's well worth it for the Bear Scene, alone)
--The Descent (avoid the 2nd movie, it ruins the ending of the 1st, isn't as good, and goes way overboard with grossout stuff.)
--Devil's Triangle (warning it's found footage, but not as annoyingly bouncy. Some of the acting isn't great. The actual Lovecraftian part comes near the very end)
--The Empty Man
--Event Horizon
--Hereditary
--It Follows
--Life (2017) (some people don't like it because everything that could possibly go wrong ridiculously does, to the point that it almost seems comical.)
--The Mist
--Sinister (avoid the sequel. It was a great idea that ended up poorly executed and killed what was supposed to be a movie franchise.)
--The Stone Tape (YMMV on this one as it's very low budget late 70's, and most of it consists of ghost hunting. The creepy Lovecraftian part comes slow-burn style at the very end of the movie)
--The Thing 1982, which you already mentioned
--Underwater
--Xtro (avoid the sequels; they feel more like SyFy original movies and have zero relation to the original)
--The \/\/itch, though it's not really Lovecraftian. Be warned there's a nekkid old lady in a couple of scenes.

If you're solely interested in fully Lovecraftian movies-- or at least those with Lovecraftian lifeforms, forces, or objects, then the list is limited to these:
--Annihilation (well worth it for the Bear Scene, alone.)
--Devil's Triangle (The actual Lovecraftian part comes near the very end. *Is that stone, or a giant fossil?*)
--The Empty Man
--The Mist
--Sinister (The way that Bughuul spreads is full-on classic Lovecraft; avoid the sequel.)
--The Stone Tape (YMMV on this one as it's extremely low budget late 70's, and most of it consists of ghost hunting. The creepy Lovecraftian part comes slow-burn style at the very end of the movie.)
--The Thing 1982
--Underwater

I haven't seen The Void or Color out of Space yet, but I really want to. Haven't seen As Above So Below, When Evil Lurks, or Smile yet, either.

Good list, seen all but 4

Im gonna get shit for this, but:

It Follows

It is a good film.

Room 1408. I don't know if it would top some of the other films here, but it kind of reminds me of The Thing, in the sense that you don't really know what you can trust by the ending. The Room faked Mike out by making him think he'd escaped and got back into his normal life, how do we know the ending isn't another fake out?

I just finished smile. It had more jump scares than I expected. Some were interesting . Watched it with my dog and sister. Couldn't have done it without them.

I'm a bit disturbed by it tbh. Gonna need to focus on something more lighthearted

Ooh, I forgot about The Hallow and Hole in the Ground-- both are based around the same folkloric creature.
Neither are purely Lovecraftian, though, and Hole In The Ground doesn't get creepy until the final act (except for the brief shots of that hole in the ground, which looks quite ominous.) The Hallow has plenty of nice body horror, too, and takes an interesting spin on the classic folklore.

When Evil Lurks
Argentinian film, so subs might be needed for anyone who tries it. All practical effects as far as I could tell. Minimal to no jump scares and not gore horror either, though some scenes have explainable amounts of blood and the like. I enjoyed it thoroughly, and would second the recommendation.

Fair. Im very new to horror in general, especially supernatural horror. So my opinion on those types of movies is significantly less informed than my opinion on Eldritch horror.

Edit: Im specifically going through four of the five that one individual listed since its clearly important to them. But the movies Im most looking forward to are the Carpenter trilogy, Jacobs Ladder, and Color Out Of Space.

Part of it is it had pretty similar themes/tone to When Evil Lurks but that movie took everything several steps further, so it felt mundane by comparison

Youre not wrong, and I enjoyed the lore of When Evil Lurks. I described to someone earlier the difference between recommending a (genre) movie versus recommending a movie. I feel like this one was a pretty good horror movie (that isnt just jumps, slasher, or gore). But WEL was a pretty good movie.

Ever since Ive started down the horror path, it seems like movies that really are true to the name are rare. Most supernatural horror tend to just be jumps over and over, which are just cheap manipulation of attentive focus. Slashersjust not my thing. Then the gore horror stuff is usually boring.

I dont even know what Im typing at this point, so Im going to stop here.

Impetigore
Indonesian film, so subs might be needed for anyone who tries it. A consistently dark film, in both content and cinematography, thats heavily story driven. I enjoyed the story, but felt the delivery (a possession style flashback sequence reveals a considerable amount of story, which felt lazy) and horror aspects were lacking. Its plenty disturbing, but most of it is implied instead of visual.

they're not really scary, but I like the movies from Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead.

you can describe them as cosmic horror, but they're often more than that - love story, family drama, etc.

my favorite, so far, is The Endless.

Good movie. Looks like they have a pretty decent catalog

Finally got to Jacobs Ladder. Movie starts strong and keeps up the intensity throughout. Resolution left me very disappointed; basically the realization hes dead and walking up to Heaven with his son, too sappy. But honestly for a 1990 movie its overall very good and right in that unsettling category. Even the part I disliked wasnt shocking for the time period.

Finally saw In The Mouth Of Madness. It starts a little campy, 90s Sam Neil fits into that role perfectly. Once the movie really gets started, its a constantly disturbing experience, like perfect Eldritch horror right to the end.

Watching Color Out Of Space right now. Its a solid Lovecraft movie, easily the best high budget interpretation of his works Ive seem.
