This is nothing. The game that always come to my mind when I think 'what were they thinking' is Sex with Hitler 2.

Dude there's all kinds of insane bullshit on Steam.

The aforementioned Sex with Hitler, then there's Sex with Stalin, or Shower with Your Dad Simulator. There's the game Nothing, which is presumably exactly that. There are games that have thousands of achievements that just unlock on rapid fire. It's a total shit show.

Not only that, but it's incredibly easy to just sit and back and rake in the cash while doing basically nothing. Quite a few of those games start out with a popular R34 artist learning of this, releasing a build with a few new images every 3-4 months and their Patreon brings them about 5-20k a month depending on their popularity.
Some of those "games" have been in development for nearly a decade while being a glorified visual novel.

I dunno that I'd put Shower With Your Dad Simulator on the same level as those other ones.

I can do one better. Look up 'Lose/Lose'. That's a space invaders game where every enemy killed deletes a random computer file.

I've heard of that. It I never believed it was real.

There are many weird things.

Some are just scam.
Some are just cheap knockoffs for some hype (like this covid game. Such games existed for decades, this is probably just a quick and cheap mess of a game to make some bucks).
Some are just jokes or memes in paid game form.

And then you can always combine every kind of game with "and also in bad taste".

There has even been at least one (several, if I had to guess) that was just a Bitcoin mining scheme. As in, it has a cheaply made POS game that runs but it still maxes your GPU because it's mining bitcoins and sending results back to the developer's server.

Wow I never heard of that before. That's wild that so many people have bought the games. I could at least understand if it was animated and you could interact with the animals to the point where it was kind of like a virtual pet... But not the low effort still images that the article described lol.

According to the article, it was mainly trophy-hunters who bought those games, as getting a Platinum in them is extremely easy.
