Cavaliers start as the best unit and end as close to the best unit: definitely consider making generic cavs ASAP. Muscle mommy might seem OP but she kind of sucks outside of coming absurdly overleveled (you get her at level 40 while the rest of your team is something like 17 if you go after her immediately). Otherwise just try and learn the system more than anything else. It is an amazingly in depth and fun system that actively gets more and more complex as you dig, even if the game never actually requires that you do anything with it. --- "A shouted order to do something of dubious morality with an unpredictable outcome? I haven't played in a week but I'm currently in Drakenhold and won the first major battle there. Yeah, the battles play out automatically but there a million ways to tinker with the units. Both in their positions, tactics, and equipment. The equipment matters more than most RPGs, it's not D&D where you get +1 AC or something. You get stuff that grants extra action points, extra 50% to crit damage, shit like that. Also, every unit has a counter, but there are definitely some strategic unit builds that mitagate every kind of weakness. However, you can also go all-in and make a unit that's 4 or 5 archers and just do support attacks. There are so many ways to play this game, you can make up new strategies on the fly. ... Unlock all your individual groups first, before building up each group's unit count - By the time you reach the end of the game, you'll be overflowing with Honor, so always use it as quickly as you're able, and don't worry about saving it up. And as someone else in the topic already pointed out - never execute anyone when given the option, there's no advantage to it, and it locks you out of a potential unit joining your army. Every unit in the game is available on a single playthrough, so make use of that fact. Unicorn Overlord is also unique in the fact that pretty much every unit you get is going to be useful in some capacity - there are no dead units or classes in the game. Even the Berserker Class, while being probably one of the weakest in the game, is still super useful, and if geared and paired right, can be an absolute monster when used properly. That said - if you want to break the game right open and have a fallback group to use that just mows down any enemy that comes your way, set up a group with Alain, Adel, Clive, and a Healer (and whomever you want for a 5th slot down the road). Adel, Alain, and Clive syngergize together to a stupid degree, to the point in my file that I was effectively able to solo maps with them. It's also worth mentioning as well - don't worry about the time limit. There was never a moment in any of the game's missions where I ever felt like the time limit was actually going to be a problem. It really just exists to prevent you from turtling a map or trying to brute force your way through a map when you're super under leveled. No, I mean, the common consensus is that even in the old Fire Emblem games you should promote early. The big gains from a promotion mid game helps far more than a few extra stats at the late end game from going 20/20.
