I don't really think there's a logistically feasible way to go about deprogramming 75 million-plus people

A good dose of something to destroy the ego and an album that explores the right ideas/draws out the right emotions (Fear Inoculum by Tool is perfect) is all you need to prime someone for deprogramming

Possibly also drilling into their heads that they need to make improvements to themselves for a better life than thinking that success can be achieved by identity/status.

That's why you don't try to mass deprogram them all in one go. Just work on one or two, or a small group at most, at a time.

A Democrat victory isn't enough. Neither are several Democrat victories. Other cults former members were rewired by completely destroying the cult. In this case, destroying or reforming the Republican party, and eradicating every right wing media injecting propaganda.

I think a lot of hardcore Trump supporters can be "deprogrammed." The thing with cult-like belief systems is, they're a house of cards. When you are that much of a zealot, you become dedicated to supporting that belief system. You ignore things that contradict it. You accept any flimsy thing that supports it. You reject any values that go against it. If you can't ignore something, you grasp at anything you can use to deny it.

But usually, you can't completely suppress doubt. It sits there in your mind, nagging at you. Memories of who you used to be and the deep-set beliefs you rejected will nag at you. Then something will jolt you out of it. Often it's something small. Most of the time it's not that it convinces you so much as it hits you emotionally. But that makes you remember all the bigger lies you'd been telling yourself and it all comes crashing down.

Of course, a lot of them are raging bigots anyway. Or they're already down some other right wing rabbit hole so things won't change much after they reject Trump. So I don't know how many. Probably a lot less than 50%.

But I think that there are a lot of people out there who will reject Trump the way "deprogrammed" people reject cults.

I think the determining factor is if any of these people have someone they care about more so than their bigoted feelings. If all they have is the bigotry, probably not.

Yeah, with people who fall into cults in general, having people they love who make them want to go back to the person they were before falling under the cult is the number one thing making them more likely to snap out of it eventually.

Yeah can't say I'm faultless. Another thread suggested sending them to say Russia, but I don't think any country needs to be burdened with our problems.

If it weren't for difficulty in assessing such, I would see that people in Texas or Florida were relocated to more desirable states and provided accommodation and just using those states to house Trump and supporters.

If you never read the article about the conservative family stuck in Russia, it's a delicious bit of schadenfreude

Thoughtful comments from Jordan Klepper. He starts off saying no you can't change them, but then qualifies it a bit (and gives an example of a woman who went to jail after Jan 6th and that changed her).

No. They are like this partly because that's what they truly believe. It's not just because some lunatic on TV tells them to think this way.

Maybe if we round em up and do some sort of deprogramming camps.

Or they can't be "fixed", yet they're still as dangerous as nazis, so more drastic measures might be required.

Ain't that right, fellas.

Some of them are just too far detached from objective reality, but I know that some of them can and do come to reason (at least as far as supporting Trump) eventually.

My mom would sooner disown members of our family than abandon Trumpism, all over a stupid border that has never impacted her daily life and that he most certainly has zero interest in addressing. I've tried convincing her of how dangerous the future of her granddaughters' health care will be under Trump, but she just doesn't care.

They can be deprogrammed, but it takes a total team effort and a lot of work for those with decades worth of propaganda consumption. Which isn't really worth it really when there's a significant chunk of Americans who are deep into the cult. We're better off getting youngsters out of the cult and preventing others from getting sucked into the cult in the first place.
