"systematically" oooo scary words sounds scary.

you can't systematically target one thing. that's just targeting a thing. there's no system involved. the system is musk can go fuck himself, just like he told them to do.

Elon Musk literally, in a public interview, said 'Go Fuck Yourself' to advertisers.

The idea he thinks he can sue people to force them to give his company advertising money is fucking bonkers.

They don't even boycott right. They buy the thing, supporting the target, then make a show of destroying it. Or they make a show of destroying it in a place of business.

Yeah, reminds me of that scene in Straight Outta Compton when they're buying and destroying their records and E just goes, "hey, they're still buying them".

Gonna be honest I think he's almost in the right here, in a sort of weird way?

It is absolutely absurd that we essentially allow and expect advertisers to determine not just the content of ads, but also essentially strongarm themselves into determining the content of the internet itself. And most people just sort of consider this normal

He's going to take them to court? That's hilarious.

Because then these advertisers are going to have to testify and state phrases such as,

"We allocate our advertising resources towards profitable platforms. We found that Mr. Musk's platform was not as profitable as it was before he took it over."

"There are only so many places where we can advertise, so we have to be diligent about picking places where our ads can reach the most people. Mr. Musk's company simply wasn't one of those places."

"We advertised on the platform before Mr. Musk purchased it. Once he purchased it, his management of the platform led to a drastic loss in users, so therefore, we chose to spend our advertising resources where it was more worthwhile."

My guy (presumably), is this really the hill you want to die on? Nobody is obligated to advertisers or support for their capitalistic endeavors. Would you want to support a fucking fascist who made it a point of letting Neo-Nazis back onto the site in the name of "free speech"?

Also, as others have pointed out, Musk literally told these people to "go fuck themselves", and this seems like a situation of him regretting that.

The thing is you usually have to *PAY* to get your stuff up on websites. Websites don't run ads for free.

It's not an issue of simply not wanting to be on Elon's platform, it's an issue of not wanting to *PAY ELON* to be on his platform.

Honestly counter sue, and the argument is simple:

"Elon Musk, sir, we were doing good business with Twitter but since you tarnished our brand with racism and violence on your platform as a result have to reduce advertising spending and thus loss of good business, we are suing you Elon Musk for $4 or $5 trillion dollars, maybe $6 trillion. You little bitch ass."

No. This is exactly how it should work, if the advertisers have decided they don't like the content of Twitter then they should just leave. That's much better than the alternative of sticking around and trying to use their money to influence new rules and content changes on communities that don't want it.

If there's any irony it's how Musk himself has been actively trying to dictate the content on Twitter since purchasing it.

This how free market capitalism (which Musk presumably supports) supposedly works.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

I'd certainly like this but it doesn't seem realistic to me at the moment and I feel like I would have to settle for some sort of half-measure. even if you can't get rid of them entirely I welcome efforts to reduce the amount of control third-parties (in this case advertisers but sometimes also payment processors) have over internet content. I doubt this is the best possible solution but ligitation by companies is one way to try and achieve this, I guess.

I can't really say I want him being at the head of it but I really don't think the current situation is too great and it's getting worse
