Yeah they aren't going anywhere, same as left wingers. Crazy how similar they sound.
  1. Left Wingers have both, more of a reason to leave if Trump wins, and a lot more places that would welcome them with open arms.
1a. Even if Democrats win, we aren't going to start rounding up people just for being republican and put them in concentration camps. So they have nothing to fear except common courtesy and respectful decency if Harris wins.

1b. While many Democrats may leave if Trump wins, it is true, that many will also choose to stay either because they can't afford to leave or because they simply can't upend their life in order to leave the country. Some may choose to stay to try and make changes to the country for the better, but most people probably don't have the power or the means or the willingness to devote their lives to such a thing.

2. It is not same thing both sides, Republicans would choose to leave because they hate Democrats so much. Democrats would choose to leave because they fear for their life.

Also most republicans are just talking the talk but arent willing to walk the walk. I am sure that any Democrat or non political person that can afford to leave will actually do so if Trump wins if they feel Project 2025 starting to become a real thing. Republicans know they can choose to stay and live in peace without fear. Many others will not have such a choice due to their lifestyle. When people start getting arrested for being LGBT , people are not left with much of a choice any more.

I pitched a reality show back in 2016 that I still think has some legs to it...

Take a half dozen celebrities. 3 that said they were going to move to Canada when Obama was elected, 3 that said they were going to move when Trump was elected. Put them in a van, have them start at the US Mexico border, and have them travel north towards the Canadian border.

I just imagine Ted Nugent driving, Whoopi Goldberg as his co-pilot. Kid Rock and Rosie O'Donnell in the middle seats, etc.

They hit the most "conservative" and most "liberal" parts of the country in an attempt to "learn how the other half lives".

Show culminates in them finally getting to the US/Canada border, only to be denied because Ted and id Rock lost their passports the night before becasue they got drunk off of too much Bud Light and blacked out

I'd wager in most cases when people say things like that it's just a hyperbolic way of expressing how much they hate the idea of a certain person being in power and isn't meant literally. Like when somebody says they're so hungry they could eat a horse they're not literally going to eat a horse.

Maybe in some cases a person means it at the time but once they put more thought into what moving out of the country would entail they change their mind. Then of course a tiny percentage actually go through with it.

Actual right wing / white supremacist parties are considered a joke here and never get into Parliament. The ones you consider to fall under that label are about the same position on the political spectrum as Democrats, or at worst, a little bit to their right.

They might be able to find an isolated community in the Far North or certian parts of Christchurch that suits their views and is too isolated to really be bothered by government, but that's about it. They'd have much better chances across the ditch for finding what they're after, and even there I still don't think it'd meet their standards. This part of the world just isn't (thankfully) what they're looking for.

Yeah a lot of Americans don't realize that the Democrats in the US would be center-right to right-wing parties in many other countries. Even the conservative parties in most European countries recognize that there is a degree of government control necessary for certain critical economic sectors (housing, healthcare, energy) to run efficiently and for the well-being of all.

SilvosForever posted...
TBH life would also be a lot better if those people weren't around. It's win from both directions.

And it shouldn't be that way. For all of the talk about how right-wingers threaten to leave the country...red states were actually huge beneficiaries of Obamacare and would've benefited even more if their shitty governors didn't reject the medicaid expansion. Finally, a lot of those governors are starting to agree to the medicaid expansion...10 years after the federal government introduced it.

That's what bugs me. Right-wingers are threatening to leave the country, but Harris/Walz/Biden/Obama are all dedicated to making Republican voters' lives *better*. A lot of the Democratic party's policy initiatives are supposed to improve quality of life for low-to-middle income Americans like the ones who are rabid Trump supporters. There are so many people who bitch about Biden and Obama and how they're terrible presidents, but then ask them to name one thing Obama did that made their lives objectively worse, and they can't say. Because the truth is...they actually like Obama's policies. They like Biden's policies. Biden is the one fixing their roads. Obama got them healthcare. Trump cut taxes for the rich.

Whereas when left-wingers threaten to leave the country, it's because of someone like Trump, who literally said back in 2020 that states struggling with the spread of COVID-19 shouldn't get federal money because many of them were run by Democrats. The difference is stark.

That's what's so messed up. I will grant that not all Democratic policies work, but the Republican party is actively trying to make life *worse* for other people. They have no objective to some of their shitty policies other than "let's be assholes to people".

I have no doubt in my mind that the likes of Kamala Harris/Tim Walz/Josh Shapiro/Andy Beshear/Mark Kelly/Joe Biden/Barack Obama wake up every day with the goal of, "How can we make life better for some people?"

Stephen Miller, on the other hand? He wakes up in the morning thinking about how to be the shittiest person possible.

As a New Zealander it's not surprising that you're incapable of realizing that NZF and ACT are blatantly white supremacist parties. You also openly support them which says a lot about you.

Moving on from the fact that you happily have your head in the sand, for everyone else who's wondering wtf we're talking about, they have a racist English-only policy and have already banned the Maori language in government use even though it's an official language of NZ unlike English. They also want to repeal the recent rehabilitation of the Treaty of Waitangi which has given reparations to Maori who had their land, culture and language stolen from them, and created a kind of cooperative racial harmony that doesn't exist in other colonized countries. Because they're white supremacists. They also got something like 14% of the vote in the last election but control 100% of the government now.

I now predict you will insist they're not white supremacists, they just want to end woke racial favoritism, which is exactly what white supremacists would say.

My overriding principle in NZ elections is generally that I don't trust either of the two big parties - with Labour, sometimes I can suck it up and vote for them anyway; National I have never voted for. Usually I vote for either ACT or Greens, whichever one is on the same side as the major party that looks most likely to win. And yes, there has been one case - 2017 - where it was too unclear which of these was the right way to go, so NZF got my vote as a "could go either way and help keep them in check" option.

If I were to throw strategic voting out the window and just vote for the party I'd most likely to see in there though, I'd be voting Greens almost every time (or maybe TOP). 2020 may have been an exception due to the corruption issues with Shaw coming to light, but now that Swarbrick has replaced him, that's no longer a concern.

Oh, and you might want to pop on "that site" and check what I've been saying about Democrats and Harris ever since Biden fucked off. ;)
