As someone who is Jewish, I have NO issues with Israel defending itself. However, we shouldn't be giving them anything, if they want weapons, they can pay fair market value for them

Ukraine is a little different, because that conflict it is not so asymmetric and there is a US strategic interest in showing the world that old-gen US arms beat current-gen Russian arms (and derived Chinese arms).

Well yea the conflict is inherently different but the US is still effectively giving Ukraine money to buy US weapons like they are with Israel. The charge was that this is money laundering and I'm trying to suss out if what the US is doing in Ukraine is also money laundering. You can argue against continuing to give Israel arms but I don't think the reasoning that I responded to holds up.

Money laundering means (illegally) disguising the origin of income (to avoid taxes or record of illegal activity). Foreign aid spent on US weapons is very different, because the paper trail is well-defined, and often even public and auditable. It is closer to an inefficient form of welfare (since some of the money eventually ends up going back to taxpayers as wages). In the specific case of Ukraine, some (most?) of the weapons were considered too old for front-line US use and had been scheduled for disposal.
