Geographically this can be ok in some places and terrible in others. It really depends. Where I live in the Midwest you could still buy a decent house and live just fine on that. Hell I know single parents raising a couple of kids on money like that and getting by just fine.

Do you think you'd want to learn network engineering? It has been a great career for me so far. It's a lot of information to learn and may/may not require relocating depending on what's available in your area, but it's a great field to work in for the most part, imo.

Ive been looking at a lot of different online schools and have been considering something computer related I was looking into healthcare administration which led me to healthcare informatics. I plan on going back to school in January but I work 2 jobs so I could probably only handle one or 2 classes at a time.

Im a low value man

When I was 29, I made 40k and I was happy to be off minimum wage. Age 30 I went up to 45k, then decided to use the job experience and go get hired elsewhere. I was wearing many hats at my old gig, as the lower wages workers do, so I gave myself a job title befitting of the actual work I was doing and got hired on at market value for said position.

Got a gig for 75k at age 31, that went up to 85k at age 33, and then got hired on at Market Value at another company for 120k at age 34, then got hired on at Market Value at another company for 175k at age 35, and 250k at age 36which I worked until age 37.

At age 38 with a solid savings I now run my own business and take consulting gigs.

The growth hack here is that companies typically have caps on how they issue raises. Like they arent allowed to give more than 5-10k a year, no matter what your job title is. A lot of companies actually prefer taking the 40k a year community manager, and training them to do the job of a 120k a year marketing manager, or BD manager (without the comission). Its like exploitive labor.

So you get the job experience, and if your smart officially secure the job title and then go get hired on at the fair market rate for said job title at another company.

Ive been doing that my entire career.

I think he was being sarcastic because the post directly before his was that everyone on the internet is 22 and makes a quarter of a million.

My husband is in CSit took him a long time to get above a quarter million. But fuck if a lot of it is luck and just knowing the right people.

It works better if you can hop into an emerging industry where even the most senior person has less than two years experience.

Mobile gaming (still kind of emerging in 2014), to Influencer Marketing (still kind of emerging in 2016), to Crypto (totally nonexistent prior to 2017), to AI (totally non existent prior to 2022), and now Web3 Gaming (emerging as we speak).

I remember applying for jobs in 2019 after having 18 months experience in blockchain, and getting offers to be CMO or Studio Head. Was insane. But like, nobody had more experience than me because in 2016 those jobs didnt even exist

The latter. I could make more money, but Im unmotivated. Its part of the reason all have been seeing so much more of me in GameFaqs in 2024. But also trying to get married, start a family, etc.

Also started chasing the dream I had in my twentys of being a professional MMA fighter. I chased that dream for 5+ years and barely made a dime, but now in my late thirties able to financially support myself, and get force opportunities to happen.

Financial Freedom is something that really opens doors, not even so inch because you can afford items, but because you can afford to take risks with your time, because if it doesnt work out you have a safety net to fall back on

So, people never consider that raging on the internet is a hobby that brings people joy. If you had unlimited free time on your hands, to do whatever you wantedwhat would you do?

Probably play more video games & shitpost more on the internet?

There was a post in CE a few years back asking people their salaries, and one user replied to everyone who makes more than 100k, why dont still use this website?

I replied, Why wouldnt people still use GameFaqs?

The basic concept being implied was that if you have money, youd be out on a Yact or lying on a beach in the Bahamas instead of posting about videogames on the internet.

But thats not true at all. Youd be lying on that beach on your phone still bitching about video games on the internet, and playing final fantasy mbius in between Mai Tais.

The location changes, the hobbies/behavior doesnt.

Yea, tried to enter that in 2017 when it was still the hot new thing, but it was so hard to understand and you kind of needed to be a developer. As a marketing guy, I remember having to speak at these functions to explain the machine learning side of things to our product, and often giving up and calling up the developer to answer questions.

With AI as it exists now as an idiot proof widget, I can talk about why people should care about it, and ignore the how it works portion. That really wasnt an option before

I mean, I do that, as do all of you. Thats pretty much what CE is. A place to rage on the internet with other people.

But no, Elon doesnt seem happy. His daughter rejected him, and rather than try to repair the relationship he doubled down. So, now shes gone forever.

Still doesnt mean he cant find some solace via hobbies he finds enjoyable. One of which is clearly hopping in random Twitter spaces to Joe Rogan himself into topics he knows nothing about, but enjoys discussing anyhow. Which also translates into trolling the internet.

Take GameFaqs for example. Every so often someone makes a poll asking if users are happy, typically its a 60-40 split, with most people being unhappy.

Those people still enjoy playing video games, watching anime, and posting ion GameFaqs. Being unhappy doesnt mean being devoid of all joy for all facets of your lifeyou can still have hobbies that you enjoy
