It's cool that the short story "The Egg" gives a better justification for all of this compared to hundreds pages you have in the Bible. The Bible can't justify rando kids and people being collateral from the actions of an individual or small group of people (relative to human population) fucking up. Sidenote, it's still wild to me that The Prince of Egypt is a kid's movie. Now if we assumed that God's motivation was to create a fellow god-like being in "The Egg" who fully understands the depths of both human suffering and love then it's still fucked up but at least makes sense

noone seems to talk about how God needed rest on the 7the day after doing what he did which I havent really thought of til the other year

its something overlooked and not understandable

maybe he has several limits not like angels maybe. if angels were something like a part of gods mind

And to the last part where you imply blind faith on my part, you're just getting ahead of yourself filling in the blanks. I read Jerry 's post perfectly fine. It doesn't have anything to do with not believing in religion or believing . It's more about sounding like a person from a live journal blog that says something distinctly not profound and acts like it's thought-provoking. Like how a young teenager says something to sound edgy more than actually intelligent.

Okay, so on the Hebrew scripture there isnt originally a devil as we know it in Christianity. There is a person called Ha Satan which roughly translates to the accuser. Its his job to argue against someone being in heaven and testing people. Hes literally gods servant doing his job.

The Old Testament is written more or less as a collection of stories about why the traditions of the people telling the stories are cool and you shouldnt go against them. Its a little bit justification and a little bit encouragement to a populace to keep things on track.

Satan is a later invention but he plays into that line of thought very well in his usually accepted modern incarnation. He is a betrayer who went against gods values, and while to modern eyes that feels very vae victis, it is just yet another example of do what youre told and you will prosper, defy and you will suffer when viewed along with the rest of things

Technically, the asshole God is something from before Noah.

After he established the Covenant with Noah, he pinky-promised not to wipe out humanity again, so we only need to worry about other humans screwing us over.

The best part of the Noah flood story is everyone always ends it at the rainbow. Like "and then they all lived happily ever after. Okay let's just skip ahead to Moses now"

Everyone always cuts out the part that happens right afterward. Where Noah gets super fucking drunk, passes out in a tent naked for some reason, and his sons sheepishly sneak into him to cover him in a blanket. Then Noah wakes up and curses one of the sons and his descendants for all eternity. None of it makes any sense and Jews and Christians alike have spent thousands of years trying to understand what the fuck was going on in that story.

Not religious but it does make sense in a way. If everything was just peachy living in paradise all the time we'd just be content but never truly happy.
