Anyone else getting spanked by even the intermediate AI sometimes? Not sure if it's a skill issue, a deck issue, and/or if I should reroll and aim for something better.

I did just pull an EX Moltres and they seem to be helping out quite a bit, at least, but I was never really planning to fight other players if I could help it. Maybe if there's rewards...

Yeah, theres Pokemon TCG Live if you want something closer to the actual TCG.

It should be based on the first booster iirc. Did you pick Mewtwo as your first?

went through all the solo battles so now my pull frequency is dramatically reduced. i have 264 shop tokens but not sure if i should just use them on hourglasses or not

pretty sure Gardevoir is the best card in the game. the Gardevoir EX / Mewtwo EX deck you battle against is deadly

This is a pretty fun deck. Gardevoir's ability (free energy every turn) is ridiculous. I'm sure there are lots of improvements I could make with better cards.

Yeah, it's like the Duel Links of the Pokemon TCG; simplified rules for fast mobile games.

* 20 card decks instead of 60
* 3 points to win instead of claiming 6 Prize Cards
* No Energy Cards, you get one random Energy per turn. The type of energy you draw is based on what you set in your deck*

Much like Duel Links I expect certain cards that were slept on in the real game to become extremely broken in the faster-paced simplified game.

*(Apparently the Energy gets discarded if you don't use it? That's actually a massive difference that will affect a few cards and strategies).

There also don't seem to be any resistances as far as I can tell

I played some yesterday. Intermediate battles are already such ridiculous bullshit RNG. Ive never seen enemy Seaking or Fearow fail coinflips even after multiple fights in a row and enemies always seem to have an evolution to pull out before you KO their Pokemon

Only card I've pulled that is above gold star was the Lt Surge full art and I've pulled it twice.

I've just been trying to get a Squirtle to finish the themed collection but somehow haven't got one yet despite opening a ton of Pikachu packs

I think I'm already losing interest after one day. It's kinda surprising for a mobile game to launch in 2024 with this little to do at the beginning.

Meanwhile I'm thankful for the rather barebones content as I have my attention focused on FGO.

The upcoming Uma Musume gacha means juggling 3 mobile games.
That I'm not looking forward to based on how it went the last time.

Just used a Pokemon with a coin flip move for the first time, all 7 flips came up tails lmao

Still won easily but it cost me the quest for winning the battle within x turns

yea, I opened, what, 2 packs and then was done. so weird.

you can get a shit-ton of packs to start off with by leveling up and using the pack hourglasses. pretty sure i had over 200 cards the first night.

There's a specific mission that awards ten packs worth of hourglasses, but I forget what it is. I'm on 257 cards after starting yesterday.

I don't really see the point of burning everything lol

The datamine has info about when the next expansions are (as of now) planned. I'll spoiler it, but knowing when it's supposed to happen might help people decide how best to use or build up their hourglasses. A smaller set, labeled A1a (Genetic Apex is A1) is planned for mid December. A2, a larger set the same size as A1, is supposed to be out at the end of January.

Oh this is supposed to be a slow burn, huh.

The 257 includes doubles. And I've spent a few on flair too, so I had more than that. I have been doing the solo battle missions, but I'm only half way through advanced. Oh, and I bought all of the hourglasses in the shop and two of each card.

I'm at 164 cards but still have all my shop tickets and about 140 hourglasses

I blew everything I have and I'm at 260 cards or something. But I'll probably stop pulling now that I have a competent Dragonite deck.

I tried playing online this morning and got four Mewtwo/Gardevoir matches in a row. What are you even supposed to do against that? I haven't played since childhood but this game seems incredibly mechanically unsound. I don't understand why they wouldn't simply give strong single-stage Pokemon higher energy costs. Mewtwo Ex would make sense to me if you had to build up to the big four energy attack, but the two energy attack is strong enough that Mewtwo is always in a good position.

Also, type advantages feel nonsensical in a game that clearly rewards you for building a deck of one color, like you arbitrarily can't play certain decks against others.

it's the same as any other tcg: the rarer the card is, the more likely it is to be super good

I think it'll even out as they release more cards, more strats will become available. Esp if they release boss's orders which lets you forcibly switch an opponent's pokemon as a supporter.

Edit: NVM didn't realize sabrina did this already as i just pulled one, just gotta get lucky I guess.

Generally just have to play aggressively or hope their Gardevoir is slow to come out. It's 2-shotable by Pikachu EX, Starmie EX, (preferably Misty-boosted) Articuno EX, Marowak EX is luck based but will on average 2-shot it and maybe 1-shot it. Exeggutor EX is also luck based but can tank and whittle/kill it and comes out fast. Stuff like Sandslash/Golduck/Electrode can 2-shot if you boost with Giovanni and they don't Potion (or it has chip damage), or will at the very least make a big dent. Moltres-boosted Blaine decks can hit it hard with Ninetales. As said, Sabrina has potential to ruin their Gardevoir support, Pidgeot can do the same but isn't necessarily fast.

Part of the balance is that knocking out an EX card gives you 2 points rather than 1

The free Chansey and Meowth Wonderpick seems to refresh fairly often. Which is good because im having awful rng and mostly picking hourglass and event tickets instead of an actual Meowth or Chansey card

I just got a Chansey off of that bonus Wonder Pick, went to go redeem the mission for Get a Chansey card and apparently theres a specific Chansey card they want you to get and the only one Ive seen those picks ever offer doesnt count

Do we know how often that refreshes? I want to make sure I check in often enough, I don't open the app a whole lot right now

Yeah that would be good to know. I've done 2 total now and assumed it refreshed on day reset but I probably haven't been checking enough then

I did do a wonder pick that only had Chansey and Meowths as options. Cost 2 tokens

This. It refreshes every 2-3 hours TOPS. Im hitting it everytime i open the app up periodically.

Every time one of the existing picks expires, it has a 20% chance to be replaced with a bonus pick or a 2.5% chance of the 2-cost Chansey pick. The bonus pick can potentially have either the event Chansey/Meowth or the standard Chansey/Meowth, and you need the event one to complete the quests. The expensive one always has the event cards.

Pulled the full art Charizard EX and there's a whole animation it can play if you tap and hold. It zooms into the card art and shows the full scene inside.

So PSA if people don't know, if you go to the social tab and select "Community Showcases" you can see all your friend's shared showcases and Like them directly from there. Each Like gives them a Shop Ticket and you can re-Like them every day, so it's nice to do it.
