Gee, I wonder why Jane Nelson, Texas's Secretary of State, doesn't want federal election monitors in the state. Is it maybe because she doesn't want them to find out about all the cheating Texas Republicans do?

and how are they allowed to refuse? Shouldn't it be mandatory?

if a democrat tried to refuse such a thing, the election would be over in a second.

Republicans : Democrats are filthy cheaters! They stole the election in 2020! They're rigging the election!!!

Also Republicans : No election monitors will be allowed in Texas or Florida. (The two most red states of the country.)
Everything is fine, nothing to see here folks, move along, move along.

I hate their hypocrisy so much.

because the department of justice is run by a republican. Ted Cruz can stop sweating now, Ken Paxton is going to make damn sure that Texas goes for Trump and that Cruz doesn't lose to Allred. Remember, he bragged about doing this very thing last election and faced no consequences whatsoever even against other republicans he faced no consequences for his corruption, threats and alledged sexual harassment and employee abuse

People really don't read articles lmao

For decades, the Justice Department has dispersed election monitors across the country to observe procedures in polling sites and at places where ballots are counted. That was a power granted to the federal government under the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which outlawed discriminatory voting practices and sought to equalize voting access. After the U.S. Supreme Court gutted parts of the law years ago, the agency now must get permission from state and local jurisdictions to be present or get a court order.

There is no reason to refuse federal election monitors unless you have something to hide.

I do not see the point you are trying to make.

My point is directed to the people ITT asking why Texas is allowed to do this.

Copium; the internals and wave in Texas (and now Florida) are absolutely awful to the point that Harris is looking to win the states. By not allowing the monitors in, if she wins them they came declare fraud and no monitors will be able to speak against it.

Reality; just more ridiculousness

As a former prosecutor, what are the chances Harris ditches Garland if elected? Seems like his unwillingness to do literally anything would stand in conflict with who Harris was in her previous roles.

This is the fault of a corrupt Supreme Court trying to reverse the civil rights movement, not Garland this time. Though Garland does suck.

After the next Civil War, we need to stop this ability of states to say "no thanks" to basic oversight of constitutional rights that they have a long history of denying. The fact that we didn't learn that lesson after the first one is an indictment on us.

Weird thing to talk about election security and then just tell federal monitors to leave. Are they going to refuse the audit too?

As another pointed out TX keeps violating the low and court decisions, however they suffer no repercussions so they're just emboldened to continue. We're already at the point where the federal government should have come in and forcibly removed every member of our state government (not Congress, however everybody else).

Her keeping Garland would be one of the stupidest things should could do and as a former prosecutor and AG herself who values holding criminals accountable I think it's the least likely thing she does. I'm not really worried about her putting a Republican in that particular position, she understands far better than Biden the difference in the parties even if she does put a Republican in charge of something else (I hope she doesn't, however she's made statements she will, ugh). I'm hoping she does what Biden SHOULD HAVE DONE and put Doug Jones as AG. That would be the best move for everybody.

In Texas' 2022 general election, Ken Paxton threw out more than 9000 main-in ballots. Since 2005, the Texas attorney general's office has successfully prosecuted 155 people for voter fraud for an average of 8 per year. More than 9000 ballots were tossed in 2022 to prevent 8 people from voting illegally.

Reminder that dipshit Ken Paxton openly admitted Trump would have lost Texas last time if they hadn't thrown massive amounts of people off the rolls.

Texas and Florida have company.

The Republican-led state of Missouri asked a judge to block the Justice Department (DOJ) from dispatching lawyers to St. Louis to monitor adherence to federal voting rights laws on Election Day.
