If you think any of these issues became a part of the the republican, or even the democratic party, in 2016 then there is no conversation to be had here.

These are "political disagreements" and I'm not sure why you would think any of these are redeemable or worth discussing. They are not and it's appalling to think otherwise.

No one said anything about "redeemable".

Not every interactions with ones family members is about politics for most people. People have siblings that have kids growing up that they are invested in the well being of. So yes that means talking to their parents. People have cousins they can only contact or get updates on through these channels.. People have relationships, and believe it or not, many are invested in gradually changing their families viewpoints on those things by discussing them. It has happened yes.

You guys need to actively take stock at how the majority of this country lives snd who they are interacting with. Internet circles who all agree with you on everything are not how it works in real life. Never has been. Ones community is rarely one they get to choose entirely. Especially for POC communities, which historically have conservative leanings in older generations.

You telling those people "just cut off your community lel" is not going to work. If it comes between some stranger on the internet telling one to stop talking to their family, or them continuing to have disagreements and discussions with their parents, 99% of people are going to pick the latter and that has to be factored in.

People with those views havs been associated with Republicans for ages. So are you implying it was never ok to talk to ones parents if they voted republican in the last 50 years? No, most believed Trump. They're being taken for a ride. My Dad turned on Trump and voted Biden. But, he believed Trump had changed and was serious. He was beyond turned off by Kamala's plans. He wasn't happy either they were paling around with Dick Cheney. That was the final straw.

Yep. I'm done with them. Only family I need is ones who openly accept me. Family isn't blood. It's who you care about. And I care a lot more about my friends than I do my uncles, aunts, some of my cousins and more.

Trump being in office enabled a lot of hateful people to voice their "opinions" last time; likewise here perhaps, a lot of people lashing out.

Plus capitalizing on people being upset and all helps ensure they'll get a reaction.

I guess. My immediate family is liberal and my father is even a pagan, but my father's side of the family are all evangelicals and massive Republicans going back decades. They started doing annual gatherings a few years back and I attended one, but I decided I wouldn't ever go back because when the pandemic hit, they were still doing them, and my dad told me an undisclosed number of them refused to get vaccinated. I just see no upside to interacting with them and I was never very close to them to begin with. It also doesn't help that one of my uncles was elected to the school board.

My dad told me the last time we had lunch together that he got into an argument with his youngest brother over his Trump lawn sign. My dad told him that meant he was voting for a rapist, and my uncle's defense was "she got her money." The argument also resulted in my dad getting called a "globalist," and I had to try to explain to my luddite, computerless, cellphoneless father what that terminally online tripe meant.

My dad's relationship with his brothers and sisters has actually cost him his relationship with his lesbian daughter. 5 or 6 years ago, they got into an argument where he encouraged her to stay connected to them despite their homophobia, and the two haven't been on speaking terms since. I don't blame my sister for her position, but she's also treated me badly as a result -- mocking my relationship with our dad. The last interaction I had with her, I tried to make plans with her that fell through because of schedule conflicts, and she immediately afterward sent me an extremely nasty text message unprovoked.
