I wonder how many of the people who said this during Trump's first run actually followed through and if their lives are better for it or not.

Would be an interesting study

None. Much as I would love to, I know that moving isn't even remotely feasible for me to be able to do. If Trump wins, I fully expect to be imprisoned or killed at some point within the next year or so.

The Repubs have no plans to wipe out SS for the elderly because that is not a vote winner for them. The plan is to grandfather the elderly in and give the middle finger to anyone under 65, even if they are 63-64 and have been paying into SS since they were 18. Though they might allow those in their mid 50's to be grandfathered in. They need that voting demographic.

If Cacklin' Kamala wins, the whole world will suffer, so it will be hard to find a decent place to flee to. Some possible options include Japan, Argentina, and Hungary.

Is there anything you can recommend on how you did it? I am reaching out to my company about it already. I know I need a work visa and to get in touch with the consulate general. I'd love to know how you did it.

I am in a weird situation. I already spoke and read Japanese fluently and I looked for post-docs in other countries after Trump won. Saw one in Japan, applied (Japanese application) got it, and then transitioned into research professor after 3 years. I work in a Japanese language environment so it's not a path for most people. My wife is a Chinese immigrant to Japan that works as a software engineer, but she also knew Japanese before moving. If you don't know Japanese there isn't a lot outside of English teacher. But I know some guys on here have done that and can probably give advice.

My father was born in The Netherlands

I was born before 1985

My father was married when I was born

Because of those three things, I am considered a Dutch Citizen and can move there without jumping through the hoops of visas, etc.

The thing for me is, I am already employed with a company with a branch in Japan. I work remote so generally as long as I am stationed somewhere in the country with internet, I am all set employment-wise. For me, it would be moving from working night shift in the US to day shift in Japan.

As far as my Japanese goes, it isn't great but it's there and I am getting better with it over time.

I guess what I am curious about is this. Once you got approved for the job, what were your next three or so steps you took forward? Reached out to a consulate general? Reached out to a real estate agency? Applied for a work VISA? Like, my job is assured. I have nothing to worry about there. It's more moving your money and getting settled there.
