Looks like we're probably avoiding the worst case in the Senate; might be possible to win it back in 2026

https://twitter.com/lxeagle17/status/1854296713080787313

Dems winning the House still looks possible but unlikely:

Dems are going to need to flip at least 3 seats to take back the Senate, and looking at the states that are up in 2026 there just aren't enough winnable ones for that to happen.

I firmly place the blame on the people who voted for Trump; however, I do hope dems learn some lessons from this (like maybe courting "moderate republicans" is the wrong strategy)

It would be very uphill for sure, but if there's a big enough backlash to Trump they could possibly get Iowa, Maine, and North Carolina (and maaaaaybe Texas).

I mean it definitely exists and a few of us on B8 probably fall into that bucket. But it's on the order of the typical 1.5% that Libertarians get every election. And honestly in this election, most just stayed home. It's kinda a big leap from Never Trump to Kamala.

Anyway I think a lot of us here could do with reading this:
https://wagingnonviolence.org/2024/11/10-things-to-do-if-trump-wins/

Despite a lot of valid anger and despair, corrik is right. We might not want to ally with people who voted for trump. But they're the key to getting us out of the mess that they threw us into. If we can't make inroads, if we can't help but disdain those that we see as worse than us, we're doomed to fail and we won't save much that we care about. It's a tough pill to swallow, and I am going to struggle with it. But it's our only hope of containing the crazy.

I hear you. And I know saying "don't hold grudges" while the man who most embodies the opposite is the one that they elected.

But we are not the majority. Being picky with allies is not really a luxury we can afford.

Obviously stay safe and don't let people into your life who make it worse. Establish boundaries, don't let them think they get to be chummy after this, sure. I agree and that's not what I'm suggesting.

The lesson I'm currently trying to internalize here is we're not going to get in the other side of this by ourselves. We're going to need to find unlikely allies in fucked up places. And we can't push them away just because it's their fault to begin with.

It's not going to be tomorrow. But it is going to be eventually.

Well, Clark has something like 37x the population of Nye, so it's mostly going to be a function of what percentage Rosen gets of the remaining Clark and Washoe votes.

79% of Jews ended up voting for Harris based on exit polling:

https://forward.com/fast-forward/671962/79-of-jews-voted-for-kamala-harris-according-to-largest-preliminary-exit-poll/

This is actually an unusually high percentage. (Was 68% for Biden vs Trump, was 71% for Clinton vs Trump). Though not completely unheard of (Jews were 79%-19% for Gore over Bush).

This also beats out most other demographics other than black (black swung about 85% for Harris) LGBT (LGBT swung 86% for Harris) and political ideologies (self-identified democrats swung 95% for Harris. Self-identified Liberals swung 91% for Harris) as well as people who were very confident that the election was being handled fairly and accurately (84% for Harris).

Well, you have to wonder what even follows Trump for them. Much like dems, they haven't really found any torchbearer to this style of Republican despite their best efforts. Desantis looks like a dud, and if they ruin things even further this time around, Vance isn't going to be a viable option either as the VP of a failed and disliked administration. Assuming of course Trump actually doesn't try to make himself king or anything and things go normally, I feel like Desantis and Haley at the least would challenge Vance anyway in 2028 for the nomination. I don't find it out of the question Haley could be who ends up going out for them in 2028, which would be a perfect scenario I think. We just need to make sure our candidate is white and male by then.

That's ironic, considering the far, far, far left Ivy League crowd treats Jews like Alabamans and Mississippians treated blacks in the 1960s. (Harris herself isn't a Jew hater; she married one.)

This.

And while yes, it's hard to out-Trump Trump, there's no doubt that the broad, overarching messaging and disinformation being bandied about by the Republicans appeals to the majority of Americans. I feel like Trumpism has finally outgrown Trump himself and is now being perpetuated systemically to where doofuses like Vance and DeSantis can also win a popular vote just by falling in line with the rhetoric.
