I actually think what he's doing is smart. You realistically can't try to act like you're for state's rights and then try to force a state to do what you want.

Enough states do this sort of thing, and the upcoming administration will have to realize what kind of funhouse country they've made with their stupid political theatrics. It's scary to think that states will start opting to ignore bad and poor faith calls like this.

Especially if the states focus on issues like abortion where they're clearly on the popular side.

I mean, it isnt unprecedented. On the left, look at states that have legalized cannabis. On the right, wasnt there a state (I want to say Kansas but not sure) that passed a law banning federal firearms enforcement?

You can if you're Trump. The man's made a successful political career out of saying he's for something, acting against it, and somehow convincing people to not care. He'll do it again here.

Trump and Vance are going to do whatever they can to try to make opposing states fall in line. Those 2 were never about state rights (maybe Vance was once upon a time, but he certainly isnt now), it was always about making people do whatever Trump/Vance wants them to do.

Sadly Americans were (and are) still too blind to have seen that.

I wish Newsome and any other Dem governors in blue states the best of luck in preventing Trump and Vances shit from infecting them.

I live in MA and while I think our state gov will resist unlawful orders from Trump, it might not last forever.

there are a lot of pro-Trump communities and he actually gained support this election.

it's sad cause people who live here and support him take advantage of all the benefits of one of the most liberal states while voting to take rights away from others

People being apathetic is also a problem in the US. But honestly I think voter apathy is a sign of larger rotting problems in US politics.

Although, I have a very sneaking suspicion that some of this might not be voter apathy entirely. Hear me out, but some of the reasons I think that people may have been able to vote better during 2020 was because a lot of places weren't allowing people to work, do they didn't have to try to find time after work and were able to simply vote.

I'd really love it if we could see a survey of how many people didn't vote, and see if they actually wanted to but couldn't versus they didn't care to vote because they didn't care enough about who would win.

IIRC, you were the one who lived in the town over from me.

I have been trying to prep myself to get out of the country should it get that bad. Been working with my company to get the guidance needed to transfer out. There are definitely better countries I can live in than here. MA is definitely one of the best in the nation to live and if it falls, everything is gone.

What would it take to like actually Trump-proof California? Like obviously they need their own military force, but what else?

California basically gets to dictate standards in some cases because it is the 6th largest economy in the world. So I can see him actually being pissed because their stricter standards get in the way of him deregulating the fuck out of everything
