what do you think it would take to get more Americans to be willing to do farm work for a living?

For it to stop being like a Steinbeck novel a whole goddamn century after he wrote it.

In hindsight, we should pay those guys more, and maybe let them unionize. We wont though. I was just thinking maybe now is the time since Trumps policies will wreck farming anyway.

what, don't we have robots and AI for farming yet?
Because John Deere would make sure that farmers couldnt fix their own shit and upkeep would be ridiculous.

drive uncovered dump trucks full of proprietary seed past farms so there's a chance that they'll have a legal claim to your produce even if you didn't buy seed from them
This literally doesn't happen.

The court cases where farmers have been sued and found liable are where an entire field (>95%) is found to contain the trait. It's extremely obvious it was intentional. Besides, spilling a handful of seeds wouldn't cause even 10% contamination lol.

You might have grown up on a farm but you obviously do not understand how pollination works.

Field-based jobs, even for the big research companies, are severely underpaid across the board. But yep you're right, they also consistently vote against their own interests so it's hard to change that.

but mostly I was referring to the fact that the modern tractor alone increases farmpower by about 1000x what ancient serfs had
A modern tractor costs $250,000+. Thats why my dad farms with antique ones.
