from trying to look it up for a bit, it seems like the USA exports about 20-25% of their agricultural production (by value). and as of very recent years the usa imports more agricultural stuff than they export. which means I think you're looking at like 25-30% imports vs 70-75% homemade?

Sure it's not the majority of food but it's not a negligible amount either

That's what gets me. That means that they recognize things will get worse under Trump, but they can't fathom at all that it might be due to him.

There's ignorant people like my mom, and aunt that simply haven't looked into it and believe he'll make things better and get angry if you challenge that belief. Then there are people that willfully ignorant, and simply refuse to acknowledge reality.

Had Thanksgiving earlier with my MAGA mom, uncle, and uncle's girlfriend. It was making my head spin to hear them go from, in one breath to the next, saying that everyone should support Trump because you should always support the President even if you didn't vote for them, to talking about how Biden has always been an idiot.

I mean, this is a level of cognitive dissonance that is honestly quite impressive.

This is from David Pakman, but one guy on CNBC, Joe Kernen(that Pakman says is MAGA, but I don't know who Joe Kernen is) is on air pretty much stating this will make things more expensive and all that. So again, progress will be slow, but the gears may be turning. However, I also thought two separate lifelong republicans voting R since the 80s voting for Harris because done with Trump and disillusioned with GOP on Reddit was a good sign she wins big, so I obviously don't know shit, but here we have one supposed MAGA going "hey you know, this looks like it'll just make things more expensive" First hand reporting, not just screenshots of text with literally no identifying provenance.

This is probably it. Someone asked in a group I am in on Facebook the question of how we is everyone going to feel after the price of of food goes up because of tariffs? The response from the typical maga folks was all, "I'll just grow my own food", "I can give up coffee". I'm thinking you just spent the last few years bitching about the price of milk and eggs, and now you will just go local only. They are just sycophants.

Basically, this.

$5 eggs, $7 boxes of cereal, and $4 gallons of gas won't be a talking point anymore.

Either that or the "smart" ones will instead talk about how the prices are going up, but not as rapidly as the were "when Biden raised all the prices" while inflation was a 7-9%.

it's actually what safeway charges unless they put them on sale for 2$. have to go to costco to pay 3$ per dozen but they make you buy 2 dozen at a time.

taking the bus saves a few dollars if purchased with other things.
