But if I need to pick a fave for reasons that aren't those reasons, Teldryn Sero. I particularly love the hint of menace in his line whenever you take him inside one of your player homes: "Nice place you have here...I never knew you were so wealthy!"

Never used one outside of the quests. They all seemed bland and uninteresting and I didn't feel like having to babysit an NPC when whatever benefits they provided seemed nominal at best.

I never voluntarily use followers. I guess Serana since she clearly got a lot more work put into her than the base game followers did.

Apart from Serana, certain followers - Mjoll, Erandur, Telydrn Sero, Erik the Slayer, and the other five Hirelings - have unique extra dialogue for commenting on situations and / or giving you various snippets of their life stories (and unlike Serana, most of said situational dialogue isn't just complaining about whatever you're doing). Cicero and Lucien LaChance's ghost also have extra situational dialogue. None of it will move you to tears, but it's at least a noteworthy step above the stock dialogue of the majority of followers.

And certain followers can be very effective combat-wise. Jenassa is a natural dual-wielder, and Marcurio will wreck the shit out of enemies through the early and midgame due to having access to Chain Lightning from the start. Plus having a follower to soak up damage can be invaluable at low levels if you're playing a glass-cannon mage on high difficulty.

Whoever wrote Neloth's dialogue should've written the entire dang game, and whatever they were on to put them in rare form that day, Bethesda should've sprung for an entire palette of it.

I don't use followers much. But since I'm playing Lorerim they've been pretty useful since the game is harder. They did make Jzargo into a 3ft tall Khajiit and a beast in combat so I'll pick him.

He's good as a tank but terrible at offense iirc, and needs aid to be viable in that regard. And when it comes to Bethesda followers, I almost always prioritize offense to help counteract the fact the fact that NPCs NEVER attack each other half as aggressively as they attack the player.

IDK I used someone from one of the houses you can buy.

Lydia pretty much tanked my whole playthrough until I had to swap her for Serena in Dawnguard.

I travel with Jenassa a lot. She's good with a bow, is one of the few characters to dual wield melee weapons by default, won't immediately ruin stealth for you, and gets 50% fire resistance as a Dunmer.

Forgot his name but he's the guy from morthal. He was such a bro, strong and capable of using magic spells. Super aggressive and accurate, he'd hit bitches with ice bolts a mile away. He's get me in trouble faster than I could see the enemies but he made for an entertaining playthrough
