My guess? He figured out how hard it would be to do with pesky things such as legal rights of those targeted, as well as an uncooperative local and state governments. Or he was just all talk. Likely both.

The retraction never gets as big a message as the first. Which is entirely the point.

Start with the headline "Mass deportations start immediately, descending on major Metropolitan (aka blue) cities" and the voter base eats it up. They see it all and then won't care about the end results after that.

Also, while not insignificant, I have to laugh a bit about 100-200 agents going into a city of 2.6 Million people being called "massive"

The whole point is to lie with the campaign promises just to get into office. How people can't see through this is the worst part of it all.

We should have congress pass a law saying the president can golf at full taxpayer expense as much as he wants.

I am not banking on MAGA seeing it, because it could be even if they are directly confronted with the reality here, it's going to be a lot of "well yeah he saw it was going to be 5 degrees out and he cares about the deportation agents' wellbeing, see" or whatever and not anything encroaching on the reality which could be, yeah, he found out just how illegal the plan may have been or something.

Not sure how we amplify the retraction and make it as loud as the initial reports, or louder.

I wonder who it was that impressed on Trump and Homan what a monumentally stupid idea this would be. Whoever it was will surely be punished for this act of responsibility.

There are people who probably still believe the fake version of the phone call between Trump and Scheinbaum, where Trump basically said "Yeah, call was the greastest ever, they're going to concede on everything" and Scheinbaum issued a retraction...in spanish. Obviously, that is the language of Mexico and the language she speaks, but they won't even understand ENGLISH let alone a foreign language.

Trump was ineffective at everything he set out to do. He mostly played golf.

They won't deport migrants. The economy needs them. They just want to speak to fearful and hateful Americans and pretend they'll make positive changes.

That is the power we're up against. Their guy did worse on a signature campaign promise compared to their devil, but they never saw it. Even Ron DeSantis said that fact about deportations in the primary and they probably just thought he was mad because he was going up against Trump, but he did bring receipts for that fact.

And I have no proof, but I hear the Fox heads were calling Obama the deporter-in-chief.

This is why I'm actually leaning toward wanting Trump to survive the next four years and not get 25th-Amendment'd out of office. At least someone who's lazy and has the attention span of beryllium-8 isn't J.D. Vance, who'll do whatever his sugar daddy Peter Thiel tells him to do and is likely to live another 30 years.

looking at the tiktok reversal, my guess is that all the bs policies like the incoming tariffs will basically just be:

I feel that since he's the only child with the first lady that gives him cult power no other in the family has.
