It might be smaller restaurant owners who are desperate for eggs at any discount.

yea, I'm hoping this is food business related (or some kind of organization, school, etc. where food is sold/provided), because it's ridiculous otherwise.

You know I did something rare the last time I went shopping three days ago. I chose not to buy eggs this time and I can live just fine without them, if they're going to stay expensive. I'm also starting to cut back on other stuff that's gotten expensive and I like to buy like Pepsi, and instead have been going for other cheaper soda as a replacement.

People just need to do same, and start to either give up on or scale back on some of the items they like to buy. They're not going to get cheaper anytime soon, and there are better alternatives depending on where you live.

I have a feeling most of this is restaurant owners that are struggling to find enough, nearly anyone buying 100+ eggs in one trip likely will not be able to use them all before they go bad.

Meanwhile you can buy 1000 rolls of TP and store it for 40 years assuming you have a place to put it, that stuff never goes bad unless it gets damaged.

I've been used to paying high prices for eggs because we buy the cage free organic crap, but they're up to $8 now. Those workers don't look too thrilled

it almost certainly is. i've investigated the small food business scene in my area because i made an attempt to break into it last year and hopefully will attempt again, and almost everyone was getting their eggs from either Costco or Smart & Final.

Eggs aren't even that good IMO. I like them once in awhile, but if I didn't have any for a year that'd be fine.

Well yeah, at a Costco, it probably is. These types of membership wholesalers got their start with small businesses in mind. It's why they're known for selling in bulk, and also why they never bother with sheetrock or tile flooring.

I've tried to eat scrambled eggs on their own and I can't do it. Bland taste and I can't get past the smell. Unless there's a trick to making them taste good.

eggs last like 2 months in the fridge and a family of 4 could very easily go through ~10 eggs/day between breakfast and as an ingredient in other meals

obviously that doesnt excuse the giant carts filled with them but 100 eggs is not some insane amount imo

This is basically how I make eggs and they turn out fantastic every time.

eggs are an easy thing to fuck up and tbh most people make terrible scrambled eggs bc they just do them in a hurry and overcook or under whisk them

I see 3-5 weeks as the amount of time they last, sure you can push that a bit more and likely not get sick but that's a far cry from 2 months. I also doubt most people use eggs every single day, sure some love breakfast and make sure to have a nice one like that every day but that is not everyone.

If you have them upside down in a fridge, they can last 2-3 months.
Nothing I recommend because they can go bad, but it is possible.
You can also freeze them, if you remove the shell.

Cheese and ketchup.

Mix in cheese while cooking them, and top on ketchup after plating them. Delish.

Or if you don't want ketchup, just sprinkle on a generous amount of black peppercorn.

I little salt unlocks a lot of taste.
