I hope this is not the over all view of the party because this is just insanity.

Perhaps the Democrats think letting the country self-implode through tariffs will get more people to wake up to the fact that Trump is super harmful to them and the economy?

They have no power to stop them, but won't even signal their opposition because why bother?

Or;

They agree with the tariffs?

Or;

They think opposing the tariffs will alienate moderate voters?

Which masterful strategy is being put in place this time?

Reality does not matter

The US is pretty much the only country that doesn't put insane protectionist tariffs on imports, because Republicans have always resisted it and blackmailed Democrats who wanted them. Now it's fine.

What's to fight? The people voted against the Democrats, don't expect them to be able to come running to save people who cut their feet out from under them.

And Congress can repeal that law if they really wanted to. Of course, the current Congress has no desire to do so.

Democrats can't fight Trump right now, they're out of power.

one part democrats don't have any actual power and one part democrats refuse to speak up (the one power they -do- have)

They can't stop them, what they should do is make sure Trump owns the Tariffs. All the damage done by them is his fualt.

They need to filibuster everything he tries to put through the Senate. Shut the damn government down. It doesn't seem to hurt Republicans electorally when they do it.

People didn't vote for what republicans are doing. Even most Republican voters don't want more tax breaks for the rich. While there isn't anything Dems can do to stop it now they can be more vocal about being against everything Trump is doing that is extremely unpopular even with his base.

You see the things people voted for Trump and Republicans to do and what they are actually doing are very different.

I feel like that's naive at this point, because Trump and Republicans literally said they were going to do these things, and people voted for them, anyway. And his approval among Republican voters is still high, with most saying they approve of the specific actions he has taken.

EDIT: Frankly, the only time we see people not approving are when they go "Oh no! I wanted you to do this to everybody else, not me!"

Most people don't pay attention to politics don't know what is actually being said by ether side. Everything is filtered by voices they trust, by the media they follow. They hear "tax cuts" and assume their taxes will be cut and never look into what it means for them, that only the super rich get cuts and they actually pay more.

And that's the problem. Even if democrats upped their communication game big time, started doing a much better job countering Republican talking points it may not matter as people would never hear it.

They haven't been putting anything through the senate. The filibuster is probably the reason Trump's been doing this through EOs and as far as I know they can't do anything about tariffs anyway.

The only thing the Senate has voted on are cabinet nominees, which can't be filibustered. Everything Trump is doing is through executive orders. Dems have no power. The American people saw to that. The same American people cannot now be like "why aren't Dems stopping this?!!"

Once tariffs are put into place it's difficult to undo them. The market had already adapted to them. Plus you need to get the other country to agree to end their retaliatory tariffs which they might not do since they knew Trump could always get back into office and bring his tariffs back.

I think I've legitimately never seen you ask, or I would've tried to answer. Or maybe it was my fault and I was too busy arguing with somebody else to notice, and that's my bad. But yeah, the answer is literally just that tariffs are much, much easier to set into place than they are to do away with, for a number of reasons. It's, unfortunately, a vibrant case of... Once the damage is done, it's MUCH harder to undo, if even possible.

It's like... It's very easy to draw on the walls, in permanent marker. But once you have, to undo it, you more or less need to paint over the entire thing, if that's even an option.
