Now that I have recently finished FF6, I have finished every FF through 15. I'm wondering if I should take the dive into 16. I vaguely remember the reception being positive. But I must get opinions I can trust... therefore I need CE --- <insert sig here> ... Copied to Clipboard!

The general saying that it has high highs and low lows is generally correct. Good story, amazing voice acting, great characters, amazing music, epic boss fights. But most of the side quests, some parts of the story, general lack of difficulty, and a lack of RPG elements hold it back. I believe it has a Metacritic rating of 87 or 88. It's an on-point rating: an overall good game with some noticeable warts that keeps it from being great. If you wanted me to rank it, it's the best numbered, non-online FF since X. 7-7.5/10 game, IMO. it has some great highs, and some really good characters, like the lead, Clive. but after about the halfway point, the quality of the story and gameplay loop degrades; like, you have to do a series of missions that feel like side-content. and the side-content is pretty straightforward and boring, but it can have some decent writing. I didn't mind the gameplay, but there are those who think it feels like a lesser DMC or Bayonetta. --- "I could never encapsulate all my cosmicality on my own." - mr. Shame about the side content. But it sounds like a more solid package than 15, which also had bad side content and several other bad qualities. I still liked it though... one of the worst games I still like. --- <insert sig here> ... Copied to Clipboard!

Really fun and flashy gameplay after your toolkit opens up. Pretty good story with great scene direction and voice acting. Very cinematic. Amazing graphics. Some 11/10 boss fights. But some really slow MMO-esque fetch quests in between the high points that a lot of people didn't like. --- Watch our "BLEACH Can't Fear Your Own World" full fandub: https://youtu.be/a2s_RdYM_pE?si=5kHTTbvJX4CY8Zk8 ... It's fine I guess. I liked it more than 15. The overall plot is pretty solid for an FF. The party members aren't terribly memorable. There's a ton of cool action sequences during the big fights. A ton of mmo style boring fetch/side quests. It's slightly too long for what it is, but overall worth playing imo --- I don't believe in belts. There should be no ranking system for toughness. ... The games fine. Definitely better and more complete than ffxv The only flaws are if you want to play as the other characters which you won't and it's Clive only for this. Gameplay is fine but yes it lacks depth, elemental mechanics and should've just went full DMC instead imo. The side quests is the main problem for this game but don't have to do it unless u want the strongest weapon in the game. Lastly the story is slow pacing but I definitely enjoyed it when it had it's good moments. If you can get it for $30 id say go for it since it's been on sale for that price and don't want to go full $60 unless u really think you'll enjoy it ... Copied to Clipboard!

Square seems to be learning from their mistakes and moving in the right direction these days, based off how 16 and the 7 remake games turned out. It's not a bad game per say, but I will let you know ahead of time that some key items are hidden behind some of the side quests. One of which shouldn't have been in a side quest in the first place. Anyone who has played the game will know exactly what I'm referring to. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Game was 100% worth the time to me. All characters and acting are great. Some boss battles have spectacle and scale like I haven't seen before and blew me away. However the pacing of the last half of the game is abhorrent. If you are a completionist type the end of the game will feel like a SLOOOOG as you go to finish all the side quests. And you'll feel compelled to do so because the stories in the game are interesting enough (to me at least) to finish them out. --- Up to no good searching for tomorrow Misunderstood when you're headed straight into the flames ... Not much to say that hasn't already been said. The main questline is fun except for one interminable bit about halfway through that's like the sidequests turned up to eleven. And I have to emphasize Error's point about the pacing just tanking if you do those sidequests. Right before the big, final climactic quest in the game, you unlock something like thirteen sidequest chains. --- https://i.imgur.com/Er6TT.gif https://i.imgur.com/Er6TT.gif https://i.imgur.com/Er6TT.gif So? FF16 is absolutely worth playing but it sorely lacks the depth in gameplay to support its 70+ hour campaign; the characters and story do the heavy lifting. It's why games like Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, and Bayonetta last about 10-20 hours, and FF16 has combat that is nowhere near as fun as any of those. The side content is interesting because of how utterly mundane it all is with absolutely shit rewards, but you'll still want to do all of it because of the world building that you're given, which is its true value. Tempting as it is to skip all of the side quests, you truly do yourself a disservices if you do so. --- ~ We're all trapped in a maze of relationships ~ ... Copied to Clipboard!

I considered it to be aggressively mid. Like a 6.5 or 7. It's not a bad game by any means, it just feels like all of it's systems are really shallow. The side quests are mmo style fetch quests, the leveling system doesn't offer much customization, and the equipment upgrades are pretty much locked behind story progress. And the combat doesn't have much depth either. Feels like they played it too safe in a lot of aspects. I'd say grab it on sale if you want some action FF though. --- Steam/Xbox/PSN = NoxObscuras ...
