Is it? I remember it got bought by someone else after Rooster Teeth shut down, and I've heard nothing about it since then, so I'd just assumed it was shelved.

VIZ bought it and have more or less said RWBY will continue

I need to catch up. Im still on vol 6 or 7

The fight scenes have become pure ass since Monty passed and that was since Volume 3. The story takes forever to go anywhere also. I got bored on like episode 2 of the latest volume. I dont need to see Ruby being sad all the time. Everyone else in the show is sad all the time because all they do is lose.

Feels like they wrote themselves into a corner with the main villain.

Monty was really the only one involved who seemed like he knew what he was doing, and even that's kind of up for debate depending on how much of the writing he did.

The show peaked with the four character intro trailers. Aside from fight choreography when Monty Oum was alive, everything about it was an amateur hour production. And after Monty died, the show lost its only hook.

The three songs from that show in Rock Band are super fun

so what's rwby?

I saw the hbomberguy video, it just seemed like it was full of missed potential. The writing and characterisation came off as high school level.

It's an anime from the people that made Red vs. Blue. It's the show that skyrocketed Rooster Teeth into being a larger media company, for better and for worse.

I can understand Persona and Blazblue teaming up in a crossover game, since they are both popular franchises that both have fighting games, and probably have similar fans.

But why RWBY? A western franchise made for a meme website that has nothing in common with the other games.

I remember it and its bad quality animation.

I don't think the show was about writing at first. It was just a vehicle for cool action scenes and the plot was written around them, sort of like Samurai Jack. Then Monty died and the show's only hook was gone. After that was fanfic-tier nonsense.

Started watching it around a rather big life changing event personally, so it ended up stuck in my head, as looking forward to it helped me get through things. Admittedly that was back when Volumes 1-3 were the only ones available. I quite enjoyed it.

It wasn't even the fight animations after V3-- over time, the very tone got bleaker and bleaker and I cared less and less about the characters. The last volume I remember really enjoying was V6 and my favourite bit was the sidequest with the Redeads -- sorry -- Apathy at the farm. But afterwards, it just kept slowly, very VERY slowly, reaching a 'too bleak, stopped caring' in the end of Volume 8. If anything I cared more about the villains than the heroes, if only because the villains seemed to actually be doing things and had more personality to them. Especially 'Midnight', the only episode of Volume 8 I can say I enjoyed the whole way through.

Haven't seen any of 9, and not really all that interested in doing so even though I really like Neo. Might watch it one day, but only because it's 'the weird one'.

I do think the weapon designs were awesome, and I love Crescent Rose, Myrtenaster, and even the simpler Bow-Dual-Sword thingy Cinder uses quite a lot.

The story and presentation were pretty spotty but the fights were always fun (even after Monty passed imo), and there was enough to like about the cast to keep watching, although i never finished season 9.

I forget what season I stopped watching, I think it was the season after Yang lost her arm.

Dammit, I went and rewatched the Red trailer earlier, and now I've had that theme stuck in my head for the last hour or so.

the way the show handles the subjects of bigotry and abuse are borderline offensive

At first the animal-people were oppressed minorities with a resistance group fighting for equality.....then somewhere along the line, it turns out the animal-people had equal rights already after all and the resistance group was actually a supremacist terrorist group? Something like that? How the fuck did that happen?

is rwby actually good? i remember picking a random moment in a random episode to "demo" it back when it was still fresh/airing. and i heard one of the characters speaking with Gavin's voice from roosterteeth and it kinda just immediately broke my immersion and i never actually gave it a fair shot because of that
gavin was actually my favourite guy from roosterteeth back in the day so its not even that I dislike him, its just that it just felt so weird and... below amateur?

not exactly

faunis are still treated badly its just the only group fighting for their rights are terrorists who blow up trains with innocent people on them

and then when the leader of that terrorist group is taken out the series just drops the entire thing outside of a few mentions of yes they are still oppressed but our no one has time to deal with that

Ohhh I misremembered that bad lol

I think part of it that was brought up in the video is that it was awkward because it made the heroes part of upholding a systemic problem and they didn't want to address that so they swept it under the rug.

Because its super popular in Japan, but I think Blakes VA completely destroyed any chance of a working relationship for RWBY and any Japanese company after the anime.

RWBY crossed over with the Justice League, of all things, in two movies too lol

Nah, it really isn't. The setting had a lot of potential, but the writers just weren't good enough to do anything with it except use it as a excuse to deliver fight scenes.

Blakes VA tried to get the writer of Ice Queendom fired due to a domestic violence allegation made against him in 2015 for hitting his wife. Tow Ubakata denied the allegations and spent 9 days in jail. There was a lack of evidence to send him to trial and his wife dropped the charges. Blakes VA went on twitter to try to cancel him and it caused a whole thing. I read that RWBYs working reputation in Japan pretty much ended because of that.

I remember everyone going nuts over it.
Never saw any of it.
Character designs of the main 4 seem pretty decent though.

I thought the first 3 seasons were pretty fun and had a lot of neat character designs. Then the creator died and another series with the same character names basically took its place. I don't think that what came afterward is quite as bad as some people make it out to be, but the very essence of the series is different and the actual action largely paled in comparison to what was there initially.
