I've been summoned multiple times, but most times I am told I don't even need to go to the courthouse

There has only been one time I had to go in and that involved me sitting for hours. They already selected the people for the jury but forgot to tell the others waiting that they could go home

Usually mentioning jury notification or hinting that you won't listen to a judge during voir dire is enough to send you home. But it's your duty to show up.

i got summoned once but i lived out of county so i just submitted an affidavit stating so and got taken off.

that was 2012.

I haven't received a summons since then, but I've also been in the Army since 2013 so idk if the (county) government has put me on some kind of exemption list or if I've just been lucky.

I'm 49 and only ever had to go to the courthouse once in my whole life. It was for a murder 1 case (which is quite rare where we live in the rural midwest) and I had to show up two days in a row but was never even called up for questioning while they decided on jurors. Sat in the back for 2 days and read my book. I was honestly annoyed at the number of people that came up with the lamest excuses for why they should be excused.

Only 2 other times did I ever get a letter in the mail about jury duty and in both instances I called the number on Monday morning and the machine said I didn't need to report.

So basically only one time in the 31 years since I turned 18 and I wasn't selected.

I got summoned in 2014 and just sent a letter to the judge saying I can't go because I'm a shut-in with severe anxiety and panic attacks and that I don't see a doctor for it and he gave me an exemption but said I would have to go next time or provide a doctors note or something. I have not been summoned since then.

Summoned twice and of those I was selected once.

It was an interesting experience to see how the process worked once they got things going. But most of the day was waiting around. Im salaried so its not a big inconvenience for me to have to miss work for it.

First time getting called in for Jury Duty, I was one of the first people called, and I got accepted. Was an assault case. Two people for assaulting a homeless man. Prosecution did an extremely crappy job, We found them guilty, but not on any any of the enhancements that the prosecution tried to add on to it. It was a case of self defense taken too far. Was an interesting experience.

I only ever had to go once in my life but my University just pays me my normal wage for missing work. They essentially just treat it as a vacation day/sick day but without actually having to use vacation or sick leave.

Also since the court paid me some small amount of money I turned it into the University and they were expected to reduce my check by that amount but the payroll department said it was such a pain in the ass it wasn't worth the hassle so they told me not to worry about it. So I got my normal pay and the small bullshit amount from the courthouse.

I had to drive 200 miles to sit in a courtroom for an hour and fifteen minutes to find out that the case was continued and I could leave.

But they paid for my hotel room and I got a good $480 out of reimbursements, so it wasn't a total wash.

Called three times. Every single time I went, I got closer and closer.

First, I was in the place and the trial was cancelled.
Second, I was one of the 6 on the bench but was young and was flipped out.
Last, I was on the bench again but was called up to the judge and I vocalized disdain for cops and was dismissed. (Trial was between a cop and some guy with a road incident)

I've been summoned more than anyone I know. Seven times since the beginning of this year, 19 last year. They insist I'm not glitched in the system. I have a folder full of them for laughs.

It wouldn't suck so bad if it wasn't at the maximum mile distance from my house before I'm out of city limits, so it's either 2h one way on the bus or a $60 uber 2x. I sadly had one fall through the cracks, got the red summons, and need to go on Monday or get a warrant for my arrest lol.

I'll do what I always do to get out of it when I arrive, and then probably have a summons waiting for me at my mailbox when I get home. I have gone to them before, though, three times. Two trials, one sent home at the door. The trials fucking suck. Jobs are less accommodating than you think (which should be close to zero if you're paying attention) and the state itself pays like $12 a day. If I could, I would remove myself from all jury duty, voting pools, community service possible unless you make a certain amount financially to be able to just freely skip work because the government tells you to.

Yep. It was pretty boring, but since I reached for the evidence folder when we went to deliberate, I was named foreman. So now I get to say I've been a jury foreman, which is kind of cool.

Most interesting thing which happened was in juror selection, this one guy goes through the whole process, then the judge asks if he thinks he can be impartial.

He pauses and says "I'd like to say so, your honor, but the defendant's attorney is my ex-wife's divorce lawyer." That got a chuckle out of everyone, and he was excused.

I've received a jury summons three times so far; the first time I called in the night before and was told I didn't have to show, the second I did actually have to show, but ended up sitting around watching reruns of the Ghost Whisperer on this tiny TV that was in the waiting area because I had nothing else to do before getting dismissed just after lunch, and the third was early in the pandemic and the state suspended jury service before I actually had to go.

Still enjoying whats left of the money they gave me for my two days of reading Blood Meridian while waiting to be called into the courtroom. They never picked me unfortunately, but at least I got fifty bucks for my inconvenience, so its all good.

And for the record, I spent most of that fifty bucks on snacks and Polar Pops from the local Circle K down the street from me since Im addicted to their exclusive Mtn Dew flavor.

I served a few months ago on a case that involved malpractice, but I was an alternate juror, so I didnt get a say when they did the deliberations. Although it boring as fuck and I tried to stay awake, it was interesting to see how the justice system works. We spent about 8 hours a day there and I missed out on pay for work. On the one hand, I did get $150 for being a juror.

But I'm from the UK, which means I am never allowed to talk about it.

Which is absolutely fine by me.

(I can talk about what happened in court, but you must never tell anyone what happened in the jury room).

I had jury duty yesterday! I was in the jury box, but swapped out during voire dire (probably due to career and connections supporting law enforcement). I've been summoned 15+ times, but only served on one trial to completion (verdict).

Serving on a jury was one of the most interesting and educational experiences I've ever had. If it wasn't for employment and child care issues, I'd willingly volunteer for it.
