Nintendo picked probably the worse time ever to launch a console. This thing is likely to bomb worse than the Wii U. I don't know if Nintendo was planning on selling this at a loss, but they're definitely going to be doing it now because they know no one's going to want to buy it for like $700.

If rumours are to be believed they could've had this out last year but delayed it to build more stock or work on games or whatever the hell it was.

People are saying even now that the launch line-up looks barebones. It probably would not have gone over well with the critics if it launched last year, even though in the long run it would have been better.

I also don't doubt the pandemic pushed EVERYTHING development-wise back by a year or two. People don't understand how that had ripple effects that are still being felt in new releases today.

WiiU sold 14 million worldwide. Nintendo doesn't need to sell a single Switch 2 in the US and can also fall well short of Switch 1 in other regions to beat that. But, Nintendo would much rather do a lot better than 14 million.

My limited and possibly wrong understanding is that Canada's supply comes through the US before being sent north, so unless Nintendo sets up new shipping routes, I guess you guys are boned.

Basically, the "Japanese" Switch can probably only be in Japanese, only work with an account based in Japan, and likely only plays Japanese games. There's a multi-language version, but it's significantly more expensive and can only be bought online.

I don't think the price is too bad. Assuming it doesn't go up because of reasons. I don't think it's wrong for people to complain, but I think they're complaining about the wrong thing. It's not that the Switch 2 isn't worth $500, it's that their wages aren't keeping up with inflation.

Now they are saying that phones, computers and "other electronics" are being excluded from tariffs, so, fingers crossed we get good news soon.

I mean you definitely have more say in your wages than you do in the launch price of a specific piece of Japanese technology, even if your say in both is pretty close to 0.

I meant like, the trend of wages not keeping up with inflation, but yeah, fair enough. Maybe I should say that specific cases draw specific complaints, like one's own wages and the price of a new video game system.

It's unlikely that the Switch would ever be exempt from tariffs even under a regular non-Trump tariff, because we have Microsoft and Valve who would want to benefit from the tariff

I really just don't get the $80 Mario Kart if they're still charging $70 for DK Bonanza, a game that looks like it would cost way more. Everyone that will get will get it bundled, so it's not like this is even a good testing of the waters.

The idea is that Mario Kart is much more an online multi-player game so you'll get more mileage out of it than Donkey Kong, a strictly single player game.

I don't agree with the pricing but I'm surprised how many people aren't realizing that's the reason for the difference

Early adopters are not a factor in this price. Its the price they want the millions who buy it 2-6 years from now to pay; theyre assuming it will probably remain in the top 20 games sold every month in perpetuity (in the same way MK8D has)
