Pretty sure it would appear on the Game Pass upcoming releases tab on Xbox and PC even if its later on in the same day that it actually is set to release, so Ill definitely be keeping an eye out for it, thanks TC.

They were. There was growth and ranks in guilds that granted you access to more amenities and items as you progressed. It wasn't just a linear storyline like it is in Skyrim.

The Dark Brotherhood is the only one I remember particularly well, but it has individual missions that are about as good as the entire Skyrim questline.

Basically my dream ES game would combine the world detail of Skyrim, the questline detail of Oblivion, and the freedom of spells from Morrowind.

That being said, I don't think BGS as it exists now could pull that off.

It doesnt end though Im assuming you mean the Main Quest, but the game itself continues long after youve finished that unlike Fallout 3 (without Broken Steel installed) or Fallout New Vegas.

My biggest complaint after starting the series with Morrowind was that future games just auto scaled everything. If they get rid of that, I'd automatically be much happier.

I want to bumble into a Golden Saint when I've barely got my legs, or be able to brave a high level area and find some glass or ebony early, or have special, unique gear in specific places in the world not tied to quests.

I don't want to find an Oblivion Gate and it's just surrounded by a bunch of imps chucking piddly fireballs. I don't want to get high level and have random wolves or highwaymen that I have to swing my sword for two full minutes to kill.

I really hope they've done something to the levelling system. Oblivion's is pretty putrid, to the point I recommend just cranking down the difficulty.

The extreme level scaling is the dumbest thing about Oblivion. I like that in Skyrim you can one-hit kill enemies and attacks feel meaty and satisfying. In Morrowind your attacks might miss depending on certain stats, but when you level up that little problem goes away. But in Oblivion when you level up enemies just seem to become sponges.

I set my major skills to stuff I wanted to use (Imagine that) and was stubborn about not lowering the difficulty, so my experience with the game was running in, swinging wildly for maybe 2 seconds then running for my life, hiding and casting cure over and over and over and over for literally a couple of minutes.

The game was so bad. If it didn't have an interesting world and writing, nobody would have liked that turd.

And then you go to the internet and you're like why is this game so stupid and you get the Dark Souls treatment: Nine different people insisting the game is piss easy, you just have to *insert radically different strategy from the last guy*

Everyone tells me the quests and guilds in Oblivion are much better compared to Skyrim.

Oblivion's Thieve's Guild is miles above Skyrim's TG. This is mostly because Skyrim's TG is the worst guild questline out of both games, with writing that makes Fallout 3's main quest look Pulitzer-worthy by comparison.

Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood is better than Skyrim's DB in the sense that the former is excellent and the latter is still pretty darn good; Oblivion's individual assassination quests are more creative on the whole, but the overarching plot to assassinate the Emperor is quite epic.

Oblivion's Mage's Guild is slightly better than the College of Winterhold only because the College's plot was written by a toddler; Labyrinthian in Skyrim is more fun to explore than anything the Oblivion MG has to offer, and Oblivion's Mannimarco is a joke. The best thing about Oblivion's MG is the Staff of Worms reward, which is completely trounced by Skyrim's Dead Thrall spell.

Oblivion's Fighter's Guild is roughly on-par with Skyrim's Companions, tbh; the former is a forgettable slog of largely-forgettable missions that's only saved by Lord Rugdumph.

I'd love it if not for the leveling system. It ruins the game. I love the setting and lots of the quests in Oblivion, but it's a hard game to love.

Things being hand placed is so much better. Stumbling into some tough enemies can be a pain, but it's also kind of neat. Being skilled enough to find and acquire some OP items/weapons/etc. is fun to do sometimes and it's rewarding when you get them and get out of the dungeon by the skin of your teeth.

One of the problems with Oblivion is you never feel stronger because of the terrible scaling. Unless you're raising your stats perfectly you'll usually feel weaker.

Agreed. This is one aspect where Morrowind excels above the others. I believe the dungeons are individually designed as well. Makes the world way more interesting. And there are no such thing as "requires a key" doors. Every door that's locked can be unlocked via lockpick or spell. No artificial barriers like that.

They should have remade Morrowind instead...

Yeah. Oblivion was my introduction to the series and will always have a special place in my heart, but in hindsight it's clearly the awkward middle child that attempted to streamline Morrowind without actually going far enough to make things user-friendly like Skyrim, resulting in a worst-of-both-worlds situation. Things like the counter-intuitive leveling and speech wheel aren't going to win the game any new fans.
