Does it mention that Trump was president during all the pandemic mistakes, and Biden was president during the entire process and release of the Select Committee report that they are touting? Weird framing that no one really believes.

The report is pretty great though. It says how effective and important all the vaccines and such were, how it's the only good thing Trump did in his involvement, and comprehensively explains how Trump's Fed in 2020 caused the inflation explosion in 2021/2022.

This is bad. Like the funding itself is good, but being able to completely change a piece of legislation by crossing out individual digits and punctuation is ridiculous and something I would fully expect Republicans to abuse next time they win the governorship.

But Evers countered that the Vanna White veto ban applies only to striking individual letters to create new words, not vetoing digits to create new numbers

Better for us to use it first, than Republicans. So tired of us playing by the 'rules' and never trying anything because of what Republicans might do. Because they're going to do it anyway, whether we do it or not.

For the record, I think line item veto in general is probably not something that should be allowed because it feels like too much of an encroachment from the executive to the legislature... but if it's going to be allowed in some jurisdictions might as well make use of it.

Republicans have already torn up all the norms so may as well play by those rules until we fix it.

Also, it should be noted that it's not like Evers woke up one day, watched Air Bud, and was inspired to try something new because "there ain't no rule."

Wisconsin Governors have been doing this since the 70s from both parties. Hell, it was a Republican Governor who actually managed to take it so far that the Wisconsin Supreme Court stepped in and said "jesus christ no" when they had previously let other uses of it go - including things similar in character to what Evers did (actually further since it took a Constitutional Amendment to prohibit the "Vanna White rule.").

So this isn't a case of, "oh no now the gop will do it too!" they already have in Wisconsin! Hell, Scott Walker did so in an instance that arguably defied said Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling that put some limits on it!

Republican Governor tried to lower a revenue limit in a bill. WI does allow for the governor to lower appropriated funds and tried to argue that meant he could alter any number but the Court ruled that it only applies to appropriation numbers and not "any dollar amount contained within the bill."

To bring this back to more recent events - Evers isn't even the first one to play around with dates to make them comically long. Scott Walker, again, changed "December 31, 2018" to "December 3018" in a different school bill as governor. So this is just literally "turnabout is fair play."

Do I think this power should probably be done away with in its entirety? Yeah, it's pretty silly. But as long as it's there, and especially if the GOP is using it, Dems tying their hands behind their back and not using the exact same loopholes being used against them just feels self-defeating. Kinda like gerrymandering/redistricting. I once was on the side of "Gerrymandering is obviously awful and I think it'd be good for Dems to lead by example and get rid of it where they can" but I feel like that was a naive position on my part and amounted to just unilaterally disarming as red states kept getting more and more brazen with it so you had red states gerrymandered to hell and blue states with fair maps tilting Congress even more in their favor.

For now, at least. This wasn't a merits ruling - just telling the Trump administration to not deport anyone under the Alien Enemies Act while the lawsuit makes its way through the courts (it hasn't actually reached SCOTUS formally yet because it's still in the Fifth Circuit.)

Better than nothing, I guess, and no surprise that Thomas and Alito don't even want to allow the chance for those impacted to seek habeas corpus (which SCOTUS previously said they have to be given an opportunity for) before getting summarily deported.

Went to my city's, was pretty big

Worked 8 hours of overtime so I couldn't make it to any, but I appreciate everyone else showing up.

Numbers weren't as high as the first one's, I don't think, although obviously I can't speak for every location.

BUT.

For one thing, I don't think it would have been reasonable to expect a match every time. Plus, it's a holiday weekend. And - most importantly - it was still a terrific turnout.
