What is wrong with that statement? Disney for example lowered prices due to lower consumer demand and a perception that it was pricing people out of their parks.

$80 pricing doesn't bother me I guess, as I remember having to save up for weeks or months allowance in the 90s when $80 was a norm for many SNES and N64 titles.

Even before that they are still more expensive than switch 1 stuff.

Inflation. Price of parts go up, price of product go up. Every console's accessories tend to be more expensive than the previous console.

Carts were more expensive to produce. With the rise of discs and DLC then later the digital revolution, a base game should never be more than $50.

Japanese CEOs usually dont make that kind of money. Nintendo is Japasa most profitable conpany and its CEO total compensation is 2.4 million. And theyre famous for lowering their salaries when times are tough.

Not trying to defend rich people, but theres a biiiig line between them and Bezos types.

Nintendo is also the only gaming company where the CEOs took the hit when covid happened, compared to other companies that decided to instead layoff hundreds of people.

Nintendo definitely has questionable practices, especially when it comes to emulation and etc but they treat their employees better than most in that industry.

I don't know where to split the difference and I also acknowledge that everyone's financial situation is different.

When you use inflation calculators to see what $70-80 games would cost now, or even $50 games from the early 00s:

I don't really get why people are going nuts about the price of MK World. If you know you're wanting the game right away, just get the bundle so that it costs $50. Yeah, sucks for those that wanted a physical copy I guess, but I suspect before long they simply aren't going to make physical releases anymore in the first place, so you may as well start getting used to it.

It's the same reason why I couldn't understand why people got bent out of shape about TotK being 70. You could get that game for 50 (along with another game for 50) as well with their vouchers system.

Were there really that many people that didn't know about these ways to sidestep the higher-than-normal price point? If it was simply a matter of trying to avoid digital games, I would have understood, but I found that people rarely if ever brought up that argument when complaining about the prices for these games.

ConfusedTorchic posted...
there's literally nothing wrong with its price in the first place, thinking they'd change it or that it should somehow be cheaper than the still $300 switch 1 is asinine

I think it's mainly that people were wondering if the price would go up because of tariffs.

I don't think anyone was realistically expecting them to go down. That's not a thing these companies do.

Supposedly 1 cart will let you play with 3 other people who don't own the game through the game share feature.

Does that mean Split Fiction should be $70 because only one person needs to own the game then.

I don't think any of them should be 70, let alone 80, but effectively paying for 4 "licenses" for the price of 1.3 is at least a better justification than none. It would be like if Netflix went back to allowing password sharing but started charging $40/mo under the assumption that every paying customer is bringing along 2 or 3 "users" who are splitting the cost.

And to be fair, split screen coop isn't the same as making the game playable remotely on 4 different consoles at the same time with only 1 purchased copy.

I wasn't referring to split screen, I was referring to the crossplay and friend pass system where only one person needs to own a copy of the game if you were to play with another person/account.

Oh, then on paper it would be more justified at 70 than others at that price, at the very least.

Which, again, I'd rather not see any of them at that price point, but the games that are letting you buy one copy for multiple people definitely have a stronger case then games that are at that price point that you can't share.

It's been a long time since I've had to buy a controller beyond the included ones, but official controllers have been relatively pricey for a long time. If you don't like it, I'm sure there will be plenty of third-party alternatives, of varying quality. Though given most controllers are made in China & Trump is determined to tariff China to oblivion, that's a super sensible bargain... for Americans; it seems America's "cheap" controllers will likely be subsidized by the rest of the world.

Yeah, I don't think you can directly compare Japan's prices to the rest of the world. Supposedly, Japan has a bunch weird shenanigans in their economy lately, from intentionally weakening the Yen to better capitalize on exchange rates, & some stuff involving real estate.

it's cheaper if you look at from the dollar exchange but isn't really cheap when you factor in the cost of living in japan and their inflation i want someone to clear this part up cuz people seem to use the exchange rate as a proof when that isn't a 1.1 fair
i live in a country where the dollar exchange rate makes things look cheaper but for me it's not cuz what would cost someone 20 would cost me 60 when i factor cost of living and minimum wage
