I always heard it was bad but jeez. The load times are crazy. How did they take a perfect SNES game and make it bad?

Dont play the PS1 version, ok CE?

It was the same for the SNES FFs that got ported to the PS1.

IIRC it's because the translation is applied on the fly for some reason.

I've heard the game can be modded to simply insert the original SNES US ROM and that fixes it.

I actually played it first on the PS1. 4-6 and CT. Dont know how i managed but i enjoyed all of them.

lol I was literally just about to say this. It is LITERALLY 7 SECONDS to open the PAUSE MENU.

I had that problem trying to play Shadow of Mordor on 360.

Like, loading screen to open the menu, to close the menu, it was a nightmare.

And it didn't even work well, it had like half the Nemesis system so the main draw wasn't even there.

Nemc system, I guess.

Only version I had to play when I played it.

But at least it had anime cutscenes!

The PS1 version of Chrono Trigger is unplayable. I never wanted to enter the menu because of the load times, and that's pretty bad for an RPG. FF4 on that same collection wasn't quite so terrible because the game only took forever to save your game; the mid-game stuff was okay.

Yeah its pretty shit. Touched it once for about 2 hours since it came bundled with the FF4 PS1 release and never again.

Still got my SNES cart that is buried in my closet (which I admit I'll never actually dig out a SNES to play lol) and the DS release w/my 3DS on my nightstand if I ever got in the mood to play the game for abit.

You get used to it. I played FF 1&2 origins a while ago. Turns out FF2 origins is unplayable on PS3 do to crashing.

It once took a full 30 seconds to load a battle for me. I was on my way over to the console to reboot it because I thought the game had crashed when the battle finally started. Awful piece of shit. Especially on original hardware.

Discs require loading, but it is absurd how long it takes here. It has some of the worst load times on the entire console. And pointless FMVs aside, the game is small enough that half of it could be loaded into the PSone's RAM at once. There's no excuse aside from poor optimization/someone fucking something up.

This is why I know the discs require loading is not a valid excuse.

Back like 20 years ago, I beat Chrono Trigger for the first time ever on PS1. And I then did every ending as well. I eventually just got used to the load times.

Im not saying that in a just deal with it or it aint so bad kinda way. At the time, it was my only option. Great game, but that shit was inexcusable.
