teddy241 posted... 40. Still got my teeth but iv had like 10 fillings, 1 root canal, and 3 crowns. This is pretty much me, except 48 instead of 40. My only saving grace is that the genes for really strong teeth run in my family (my grandfather died in his 80s and still had his original teeth, no dentures or major repairs). Otherwise I'd probably have been worse off. Also, I had five wisdom teeth instead of 4 (and because of that one of them was impacted and one was semi-impacted), and I've had all of them removed (along with one other molar). Blue_Thunder posted... Unfortunately, kid me had a thumb sucking habit that misaligned my teeth but otherwise I've taken good care of them. I used to chew on things. Pencils, pens, toys (I ruined so many Star Wars figures that way). Anything plastic or rubber, I'd kind of absent-mindedly gnaw on it (the only thing that really stopped me is when I discovered bubble-gum and started chewing that instead - fortunately sugar-free Trident existed or my teeth would probably be even worse). The upshot of which is that my two front teeth wound up being misaligned. Not ridiculously so, but a little bit out of formation. But when I started getting all my dental repair work done my two front teeth needed crowns, so now they're perfectly straight. ConfusedTorchic posted... it's bullshit that our bodies haven't just evolved to continuously grow teeth To be fair, as far as evolution is concerned we're supposed to be dead at 40. Our biological purpose is to survive long enough to breed, then die. Barring major accidents, most people's teeth last long enough for that purpose, so there was never a need to just keep pumping out teeth like sharks do. --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ... ParanoidObsessive posted... This is pretty much me, except 48 instead of 40. I'm 45. I have had one root canal and however many fillings, two digits. No crowns though. The 2 wisdom teeth in my lower jaw came around by 20 or so, and have been pulled. The top ones never did except in the last few years the left one did. That will need extracting at some point, but too early and thankfully causing not much trouble yet. The right one is there say the X-rays but not visible yet. No regular molars have been lost as yet. Most Dutch insurers offer three levels of dental healthcare insurance, but without fail, the maths make clear that the low one *can* work in your favor if your dental care costs are sufficient - like mine - but the two higher ones have no point where they would save more than what they cost extra. They pay out more, but also cost more and that's regardless of what dental work comes up. Best I can figure, they exist only so the wife can nag "You should get that, you know what the dentist said!"
