I don't really understand what people like about Twilight Princess, it's the only Zelda game I haven't been able to beat more than once (the specific wording is because it took me two attempts to beat it, I just lost interest partway through my first time).

I liked it at the time, but it was very...forgettable. Like I can remember distinct parts of WW, OoT and MM that I liked/disliked. Can't do that with TP outside of a few small moments.

100%. It has some of the most interesting puzzles in the series. So much interesting stuff for iron boots. The story is one of the better ones for Zelda. Large scale boss fights.

Could be a good game, could even be a great game, but that stuff put me out for good after making it pretty far in (a weird dark temple with some weird mutant guys outside).

I liked it. I'd play it again if HD came to Switch/2.

I loved the sound design and general tone and atmosphere. A lot of the dungeons were really cool.

It was a little too linear though, and some of the items were a little too limited.

The game was also WAY WAY too easy. It was a "mature" Zelda that played like a children's game. I wish the rest of the combat felt like the final boss, that fight really showed the potential the game had.

It does the Zelda 3D formula very well. It has drawn out sections sure, but it does the 3 dungeon, master sword, 5 / 6 more dungeons, final boss dungeon like Ocarina of Time. And it has some of the best dungeons in the entire series.

I'm mostly confused how people DON'T think it is at least decent.

Oh no it for sure does not. MAYBE the sand dungeons come close but that game is a fucking dumpster fire.

The HD version and Hero Mode is fantastic. It makes it and Wind Waker actually difficult where you need to prepare before you dive into dungeons. Really hope they bring the HD ones over eventually. *hugs Wii U*

I'd argue most of the series offered more challenge. LttP can be outright brutal at times. Admittedly I didn't get very far, but recall SS being substantially more difficult.
BotW is also is pretty hard at points.

I really enjoyed the game the first time I played it, and I ended up liking the wolf mechanic. Midna is my favorite of the companions.

I played the game again a few years ago and liked it less. But I don't think that is necessarily an issue with Twilight Princess. Over-all I find myself enjoying Zelda games less and less. I like the dungeons, but not so much the time inbetween dungeons.

Enjoyed TP much more on Wii U than Wii. Improving the visuals + removing the waggle did a lot more for me than i would've expected.

I also watched KingK's retrospective of it in between those two playthroughs, and i think he really did a great job of conveying what fans of the game like, to the point where it helped me enjoy it more: https://youtu.be/W9b7ibFUZZg?si=qtMGdW8ZT3ywGnnB

Damn temple of time is actually one of my lesser dungeons in that game. City in the sky is one of the most memorable in the series for me though. I also particularly liked the Mansion dungeon, which I also consider one of the most memorable in the series

Windwaker is my favorite 3D Zelda. I liked TP but never thought it was amazing or anything. Ill 100% take that over the modern direction of Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom though. I have no issues with them changing their formula and trying new things. Sometimes its great but I wish Breath of the Wild would have been a one off and Tears of the Kingdom would have been something else.

You actually didn't explain how it does it "the best out could do", you just listed the number of dungeons it has.

Seriously? Snowbound, not even that one? Temple of Twilight? Snowbound is one of the most known dungeons in the series.
It's an ice dungeon where you do an annoying fetch quest. And Palace of the Twilight is as much a dungeon as the Sky Keep and WW Ganon's Tower are, it's a mini dungeon with only weak early game enemies in it.

People wanted a more mature 3D Ocarina of Time. Wind Waker was a left field pitch and Twilight Princess brought back the OoT formula and did it best of the bunch. You are free to disagree (as you clearly do) but this is why people liked it. There is your understanding.

Pretty much. Any big game getting a high score from every major publication was par for the course.

So when I "go back" I'll do the most bare minimum thing and pretend like my "Zelda Cycle" comment wasn't a magic spell and search it up. At which point it'll just flat out get me a meme from that era as the second result, pointing out that Twilight Princess will stop being hated on once Skyward Sword came out.

Really does highlight just how on point it was.

How is the formula different between them? Both do the beginning > one set of dungeons > mid point > second set of dungeons > finale setup.
