Time to cancel federal taxes, then.

I look forward to the California law forbidding companies and individuals from filing their taxes with the federal government.

Yeah, right, with Newsom in charge.

I see a lot of Californians going to be angry and ask what's the point of paying federal taxes if there are no benefits with Trump in charge?

I suppose a point in favor of this is that California voters are the only group of people to ever elect her.

That's unwise IMO. The Trump regime would be delighted to sic the IRS on any tax resisters from CA.

Is it?

Because I would cite the Founding Fathers grievance against the King of England. That is taxation without representation.

The states send revenue to the federal government in exchange for which certain services but mostly funds are provided in return.

If that does not happen for one state as retaliation, then clearly there is a broken agreement.

For one every company would need to decide to not send in payroll taxes, and if that were to happen, you know damn well the administration would pick and choose which companies to charge with tax evasion and which ones to ignore.

That's the lens I'm looking from. To me it's quite simply taxation without representation.

Its probably not a practical long term strategy but it doesnt need to be.

It just needs to slow things up in the courts.

Although Im not sure how much Id want to test the assholes in the Supreme Court over their opinions on taxation if I were Donald.

It should since, as others have said, this is a rather blatant "Taxation without representation" situation. There is a reason money is the responsibility of congress. All the stuff he has been doing with DOGE, money and budgets is a violation of separation of powers by my judgement. I just wonder how far this is going to go with how willing democratic leadership is to engage in appeasement.

https://www.politico.com/news/2025/06/06/newsom-floats-withholding-federal-taxes-00393386

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday suggested California consider withholding tens of billions in annual federal tax dollars amid reports Donald Trump is preparing funding cuts targeting the state.

Californians pay the bills for the federal government. We pay over $80 BILLION more in taxes than we get back, the Democratic governor said in an X post Friday afternoon, referencing a recent analysis from the Rockefeller Institute that California contributed about $83 billion more in federal taxes in 2022 than it received back from Washington.

Maybe its time to cut that off, he added.

Not really. Texas talks about seceding over bigoted things. California refusing to pay federal taxes is literally an identical response to what Trump threatens.
