I'm not talking about some enchanced port released later on or a remake or such. I mean the exact same game. Like you bought Persona 4 on PS2, then bought another copy of Persona 4 on PS2. Different console versions do count I guess as long as they dont have exclusive stuff like Soul Calibur

And I have the SNES version from when I was a kid and the Japanese Super Famicom version that I bought from Japan

I bought FF9 on PS4, then bought it again on Steam for the Moguri Mod

Closest I've come is that I bought Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on both Wii U and 3DS so I could play it at home and portably.

Also I bought the DS versions of the Ace Attorney trilogy twice. Sold them at one time and then years later bought them again.

Mostly because of mods.. in the case of MGS2 and MGS3 it literally was because I wanted to show Konami some love three times lol

I've bought the original Doom in some form or another at least half a dozen times.

A handful of games when I built my first gaming PC in 2012, some of them being Battlefield 3, Assassin's Creed 2 and Brotherhood, and some other ones I forgot.

Most recently I bought Outriders on PC first and then again on Playstation when it was on sale but I did that so I could carry myself and also farm high end gear since it's a crossplay title

i've bought plenty of repeats on different platforms. Hell, I'm playing FF7 Rebirth on PC after already owning and beating it on PS5. I'll also get it, and Remake, on Switch 2 when it eventually comes out. I don't mind rebuying games I've already beaten.

I have bought repeats on the same platform but only main ones that come to mind are Infamous 2, somehow wound up with like 3 copies i think, and BioShock 2 on PS3 iirc.

I've never bought myself the same version of the same game on the same console, but I catch your drift.

For some strange reason, I was playing Red Alert 2 on the PC, and the disk EXPLODED one day, leaving Shards of disk in the disk drive, which I had to fish out. I immediately went out and rebrought the game, it was too good to go with out.

I literally just bought both the Steam and PS5 versions of Deltarune less than a week ago. And don't even get me started on how many ports of Skyrim that I've bought since its 2011 launch.

Yeah, I've bought ports of games across multiple platforms. I've also replaced copies that got lost/damaged beyond use.

I bought Terminator Resistance 4 times.

I would never buy the exact same game to "support the game" (me buying one copy was showing support).

But I have on occasion bought the same game to play on different platforms.

A couple of times, but not just to have multiple copies.

My original copy of Kingdom hearts got scratched up somehow, so I bought a new one. Then later my copies of Kid Icarus Uprising and Monster Hunter Generations went missing. I looked for like a month before I decided to replace them. Then a week later I found my first copies. Someone had moved them and put them in a box that I don't keep games in.

So, about 3 times.

No. Seems like a waste of money if the original is working. Unless it's a really small company and you're buying extra copies to support. In which case, I'd give the extra to someone else.

Twice but for what I think are realistic reasons.

White Knight Chronicles on PS3. 350 hours into the game my fat PS3 got YLOD. At the time I was unaware how to remove the disc on a dead system. I was addicted to this game and put 1,350 hours in it the first 7 months it was out. Went out that morning and bought a new PS3 slim and rebought the game and went home set it up, downloaded my cloud save (from automatic backup (thankfully I had ps+ for this reason)

Hot Shots Golf Out of Bounds on PS3. One of my favorite series. Played it multiple times weekly with a friend for 5 years until servers were shut down. Played online tournaments a lot the first couple years. Loved this game so much and played it easily over 5,000 hours.

I had the disc version and had the extra courses and characters but never bought the costume pack that was like $10 for outfits for all the golfers. 2 years later they had a sale on the digital version of the game with the costumes and everything for $15. I decided it was worth $15 for the convenience of not needing to swap discs with my main game 3 times a week to jump back and forth and getting the costumes was a nice bonus I didnt have. Totally was worth the money to not be swapping discs the next 3 years. I also liked the idea of supporting a really niche series I loved with another sale.

These are the only two times and was totally worth it both times to me.

For different systems, MMBN Legacy Collection, Persona 5 Royal (three times), FFXVI, soon Stellar Blade... There are definitely more, but these are the most recent.

For purchases on the same system, I bought Dragon Quest 1+2 for Super Famicom twice thinking I never bought it originally. Kind of awkward finding it later when reorganizing the games. Also bought Mario Kart 8 Wii U twice and I can't remember why.

I have before, but these days I go out of my way to not, actually.

The trend of selling HD collections or etc is really irritating for this reason. I only want one of the games and I don't want the dupes.

Technically no but id still say yes. I bought FF VIII a bit over a decade ago because my Disc 3 had gotten messed up, but the first copy was bought by my dad.

Same thing happened to me & my sister with Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for PS2. (Note we were still kids when this happened & unaware of JK Rowling's evilness)

I bought BOTW twice. Once for Wii U and then later on when I had a Switch. Wii U is where I played most of it. I only did one playthrough of BOTW on Switch, and that was the Master Mode playthrough. Very interesting experience.

I think I have three copies of Final Fantasy Tactics, not even including the new remake coming out. One's the WotL version for mobile though so not exactly the same.

More than I can count to be honest. It was common for me to buy a physical game then down the road buy it digitally on the 360. I stopped this practice during the XB1 years.

I even thought about just buying a Series S to at least be able to play some current gen. So to convert totally digital I would have to look for sales of games so I can save some money. It's something I need to think about honestly

Yes, but not for either of the poll options. I have bought identical versions of a game on multiple systems for collection purposes. I have Mario Kart 8 on Wii U both digitally and physically mostly because I was curious if I could register them both on MyNintendo or ClubNintendo or whatever it was called at the time for additional points (I could not). And I have two copies of Tetris for Game Boy so that I could play two-player with a friend.

Some games that I bought/buy on console, I will sometimes rebuy later on PC when they go on deep discount.

I did it for smash ultimate and final fantasy 7 rebirth.

With smash ultimate I had pre-ordered that ultimate edition I think it was called (the one that came with the smash ultimate switch pro controller). A year or so later, it got to the point where it was like "you know what......I'm sort of tired of carrying around my smash ultimate cart all the time" since smash ultimate is one of those games that I played alot. I bought a digital copy when it had got a sales discount just so I can have it always on my switch.

For final fantasy 7 rebirth I was beyond supped to play it. I pre-ordered the physical deluxe edition of the game just like I have done for FF7 remake on the PS4. I was expecting for the game to have a midnight launch so I can pick it up asap, but for whatever stupid reason the game did not get one, =/

I was looking at the digital version of the game and it being playable at mightnight and since I had some spare pocket monies my impatience won over, lol. I pre-ordered the deluxe digital version so I can get that magic pot and moogle trio summon right away, and then just picked up my deluxe physical the next day.

Oh yes Ive had to replace some ps1/2 discs before but I also have dangan ronpa on switch ps4(never got around to buying the ps4) and the first two games on ios

Only to replace a lost or broken copy.

I'll buy games again if I don't have them on steam. They'll be like 90% off and I'm really just paying for the convenience of having them on steam.
