https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/israeli-fire-kills-30-gaza-medics-say-attention-shifts-iran-2025-06-18/

"CAIRO, June 18 (Reuters) - Israeli gunfire and strikes killed at least 140 people across Gaza in the past 24 hours, local health officials said, as some Palestinians in the strip said their plight was being forgotten while attention shifted to the air war between Israel and Iran.
At least 40 of the total number killed in the past day died as a result of Israeli gunfire and airstrikes on Wednesday, Gaza's health ministry said. The deaths included the latest in near daily killings of Palestinians seeking aid in the three weeks since Israel partially lifted a total blockade on the territory.

Medics said separate airstrikes on homes in the Maghazi refugee camp, the Zeitoun neighbourhood and Gaza City in central and northern Gaza killed at least 21 people, while five others were killed in an airstrike on an encampment in Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
Fourteen more people were killed in Israeli fire at crowds of displaced Palestinians awaiting aid trucks brought in by the United Nations along the Salahuddin road in central Gaza, medics said.
In response to a request for comment about the Salahuddin road incident, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that despite repeated warnings that the area was an active combat zone, individuals approached troops operating in the Nuseirat area in the central Gaza Strip in a manner that posed a threat to forces.

Troops fired warning shots, it said, adding that it was unaware of injuries. Regarding other strikes, the IDF said it was "operating to dismantle Hamas military capabilities" while taking "feasible precautions to mitigate civilian harm."
On Tuesday, Gaza's health ministry said 397 Palestinians among those trying to get food aid had been killed and more than 3,000 wounded since aid deliveries restarted in late May.
Some in Gaza expressed concern that the latest escalations in the war between Israel and Hamas that began in October 2023 would be overlooked as the focus moved to Israel's five-day-old conflict with Iran.

"People are being slaughtered in Gaza, day and night, but attention has shifted to the Iran-Israel war. There is little news about Gaza these days," said Adel, a resident of Gaza City.
"Whoever doesn't die from Israeli bombs dies from hunger. People risk their lives every day to get food, and they also get killed and their blood smears the sacks of flour they thought they had won," he told Reuters via a chat app.

'FORGOTTEN'
Israel is now channelling much of the aid into Gaza through a new U.S.- and Israeli-backed group, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which uses private U.S. security and logistics firms and operates a handful of distribution sites in areas guarded by Israeli forces.
Israel has said it will continue to allow aid into Gaza, home to more than 2 million people, while ensuring aid doesn't go to Hamas. Hamas denies seizing aid, saying Israel uses hunger as a weapon.
Philippe Lazzarini, head of the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees, called the current system for distributing aid "a disgrace & a stain on our collective consciousness", in a post on X on Wednesday.
The war in Gaza was triggered when Hamas-led militants attacked Israel in October 2023, killing 1,200 and taking about 250 hostages, according to Israeli allies.
Israel's subsequent military assault has killed nearly 55,600 Palestinians, according to Gaza's health ministry, displaced almost all the territory's residents, and caused a severe hunger crisis.
The assault has led to accusations of genocide and war crimes, which Israel denies.
Palestinians in Gaza have been closely following Israel's air war with Iran, long a major supporter of Hamas.
"We are maybe happy to see Israel suffer from Iranian rockets, but at the end of the day, one more day in this war costs the lives of tens of innocent people," said 47-year-old Shaban Abed, a father of five from northern Gaza.
"We just hope that a comprehensive solution could be reached to end the war in Gaza, too. We are being forgotten," he said."

Heartbreaking.

unfortunately, we'll most likely never see them brought to justice.

Israeli military kills 23 Palestinians near aid site in Gaza, witnesses and medics say
Israeli forces have killed 23 Palestinians after opening fire on crowds gathered near an aid distribution site, witnesses and medics say.
Tanks and drones fired at thousands of people near a distribution centre in central Gaza run by the US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), the witnesses and medics said.
A spokesperson for al-Awda hospital in Nuseirat confirmed they received 23 bodies and more than 100 wounded. Images from the hospital showed bodies on the floor.
The Israeli military is yet to comment. The GHF denied a shooting occurred near their sites. The Hamas-run health ministry says more than 400 Palestinians have been killed in similar incidents since late May.
That is when the GHF took over most aid distribution in Gaza in an attempt by Israel to bypass the UN as the main supplier of aid.
The move followed a complete three-month Israeli blockade during which no food entered the territory, putting the entire population at critical risk of famine according to a UN-backed assessment.
In almost all incidents, witnesses have said that Israeli troops opened fire, although there have also been reports of local armed gunmen shooting at people.
The UN children's agency Unicef said the Israel- and US-backed food distribution system run by GHF was "making a desperate humanitarian situation worse".
Unicef spokesperson James Elder said a lack of public clarity on when the sites, some of which are in combat zones, were open was leading to mass casualty events.
"There have been instances where information (was) shared that a site is open, but then it's communicated on social media that they're closed, but that information was shared when Gaza's internet was down and people had no access to it," he told reporters in Geneva.
He said many women and children had been wounded while trying to receive food aid, including a young boy who was wounded by a tank shell and later died.
On Thursday, at least 12 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces while waiting for aid, according to rescuers and medics. The GHF denied there were any incidents near its site. The Israeli military told Reuters that "suspects" had attempted to approach forces in the area of Netzarim, and that soldiers had fired warning shots.
On Tuesday witnesses said more than 50 people were killed when Israeli forces opened fire and shelled an area near a junction to the east of Khan Younis, where thousands of Palestinians had been gathering in the hope of getting flour from a World Food Programme (WFP) site, which also includes a community kitchen nearby. The Israeli military said "a gathering" had been identified "in proximity to IDF troops operating in the area" and the incident was under review.
Unicef also warned that Gaza was facing a man-made drought as its water systems were collapsing. Just 40% of rinking water production facilities were still functioning, Mr Elder said.
"Children will begin to die of thirst," he said, adding: "We are way below emergency standards in terms of drinking water for people in Gaza."
In a separate Israeli attack on Friday, a medic with the Palestinian Red Crescent told the BBC that 11 Palestinians were killed and others injured in an Israeli airstrike targeting a home in the al-Ma'sar area west of Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.
Eyewitnesses said Israeli warplanes struck a two-storey house belonging to the Ayash family.
Hamas-run civil defence officials say Israel has carried out a wave of deadly air strikes on Gaza in recent days, following a brief lull in air operations that coincided with the escalation between Israel and Iran.
They reported on Thursday that at least 77 Palestinians had been killed in such strikes, which heavily targeted the Shati area in western Gaza City.
Local sources speculated that the renewed strikes may be linked to the targeting of Hamas security elements who have recently re-emerged across parts of Gaza, attempting to reassert control amid a breakdown in law and order. These movements appear to have been timed with the temporary easing of Israeli aerial surveillance due to the simultaneous military focus on Iran.
The Israeli military launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on 7 October 2023, in which about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage.
At least 55,706 people have been killed in Gaza since then, including more than 15,000 children, according to the territory's Hamas-run health ministry.

notes from a Gaza hospital as war closes in
They are shooting a lot. The tank has sieged the hospital.

Gunfire can be heard in the background of a hushed voice note sent in the middle of the night from inside al-Awda hospital, described by the World Health Organization last month as the last functioning hospital in North Gaza.

A week later, the hospital was declared out of service and the medical staff, including the director, Mohammed Salha, who recorded the voice note, were forced to evacuate and head south.

Patients were carried on stretchers and wheelchairs past mounds of rubble and bombed-out buildings to waiting ambulances.

With fewer than half of Gazas hospitals now running - and those that are only at a limited capacity - there are warnings from groups like the WHO and British Red Cross that the health system is being systematically dismantled and "on the brink of collapse", as the number of casualties from the 20-month war continues to rise.

Al-Awda in northern Gaza is one of several hospitals across the territory to have ceased or reduced operations since Israel expanded its offensive last month, with the Israeli military accusing Hamas and other armed groups of operating in and around the facilities.

BBC drops Gaza medics documentary over impartiality concerns
Corporation says talks over how to broadcast Gaza: Doctors Under Attack have reached the end of the road
The BBC has scrapped plans to show a documentary about medics in Gaza after concluding it risked creating a perception of partiality over the corporations coverage of the conflict.
In the latest controversy over the BBCs coverage of the war, it announced that discussions over how to broadcast the film, or incorporate some of its footage into its news coverage, had reached the end of the road. It said it was now transferring ownership of the project to the independent production company that produced it.
Anger and frustration had been building for months over the status of Gaza: Doctors Under Attack, with some involved in the film believing it was originally due to be broadcast at the start of the year. There have been concerns that some of those featured in the programme could withdraw their support over the delays.
The BBC formally paused its broadcast after an investigation was launched into the making of another documentary, Gaza: How to Survive a War Zone. That programme was pulled from iPlayer earlier this year after it emerged that its 13-year-old narrator was the son of a Hamas official. The review into its production continues.
However, the BBC said that after attempting to find other ways of using parts of the medics programme, produced by the independent Basement Films, it had concluded there were impartiality concerns and it would no longer be shown by the broadcaster.

We wanted the doctors voices to be heard, the BBC said in a statement. Our aim was to find a way to air some of the material in our news programmes, in line with our impartiality standards, before the review was published. For some weeks, the BBC has been working with Basement Films to find a way to tell the stories of these doctors on our platforms.
It added: Yesterday it became apparent that we have reached the end of the road with these discussions. We have come to the conclusion that broadcasting this material risked creating a perception of partiality that would not meet the high standards that the public rightly expect of the BBC. Impartiality is a core principle of BBC News. It is one of the reasons that we are the worlds most trusted broadcaster.
It also challenged claims the film had ever undergone the BBCs final pre-broadcast signoff processes. Any film broadcast will not be a BBC film, it said.
The decision comes after the founder of Basement Films, Ben de Pear, took aim at the BBC during a documentary festival this week, saying BBC journalists were being stymied and silenced. He directly criticised the BBC director general, Tim Davie, whom he described as a PR person.
All the decisions about our film were not taken by journalists; they were taken by Tim Davie, he said. Tim Davie is taking editorial decisions which, frankly, he is not capable of making.
The BBCs primary purpose is TV news and current affairs, and if its failing on that, it doesnt matter what drama it makes or sports it covers. It is failing as an institution. And if its failing on that, then it needs new management.
The decision also follows an appearance on BBC Radio 4s Today programme by one of the journalists involved in the documentary, Ramita Navai, in which she described Israel as a rogue state thats committing war crimes and ethnic cleansing, and mass-murdering Palestinians.
Challenged about her statement by the presenter Amol Rajan, who said that it was her opinion, she said it isnt my opinion and that she had collected evidence during her work on the documentary.
The BBC said it had produced powerful coverage of the Gaza war, including documentaries. We have also investigated allegations of abuse of Palestinian prisoners and Israels attacks on Gazas hospitals, it said. We want to thank the doctors and contributors and we are sorry we could not tell their stories. The BBC will continue to cover events in Gaza impartially.

what the actual fuck like really fuck this shit how the fuck they ''balanced and be impartation'' over fucking war crimes fuck this
