I heard that Engage has a lot of dialog changes. Apparently some of the romances are extremely controversial for the western market. Like underage people falling in love with the main character. I think those romances got changed so that all you do is be their friend

You would think that Nintendo would realize in the modern day and fire emblem being popular outside Japan for like 20 years now, that maybe they should just by default not be having things like that in the story so they don't have to worry about editing it for the west

Honestly, I'd rather they do what they did in the old FE games and just age up those characters, like they did with Lyn in FE7 being changed from 15 to 18. A lot of the characters that the internal data says are 17 already act like they're older anyways, like Citrinne, Fogado, and Rosado. Just make them 18 or 19 instead. That would have been much easier than re-writing entire support conversations to remove any sort of romantic implications.

Sure, some of them wouldn't be believable so they shouldn't bother, like Jean, Anna, and Hortensia. *Engage spoilers* Veyle too, but she has another reason besides her age why romancing her would be bad. For those characters, they can change the dialogue to remove the romance.
