projectpat72988 posted... So what happens if the House vote fails? Even though they already passed it so I don't really get why it gets voted on again? The House and the Senate passed different versions of the bill. So that means leadership in the House and Senate have to negotiate to come up with one bill that reconciles the two versions. Then that version gets voted on in both chambers and if it passes in both it goes to the president. There's a small chance that they fail to agree on a bill that can pass in both chambers. If this happens it'll probably fail in the House since Republicans have such a slim majority there. But it's probably going to pass. yeah NC can get worse Trump says daughter-in-law is first choice for Tillis seat Johnson on the megabill: Im not happy with what the Senate did to our product Speaker Mike Johnson said hes not happy with the sprawling legislation Senate Republicans just sent back to the House. Im not happy with what the Senate did to our product. We understand this is the process. It goes back and forth, and well be working to get all of our members to yes, Johnson said outside the House Rules Committee, which convened to debate the GOP megabill Tuesday afternoon. So high stakes, aggressive schedule, and we knew we would come to this moment, Johnson said. The comments come as conservatives like Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) are saying they wont vote for the domestic policy legislation, which Senate Republicans passed on the thinnest of margins Tuesday afternoon after a grueling all-night vote-a-rama. Norman told reporters outside the Rules committee that the House should send back its original plan to the Senate and leave town, instead of even considering the Senate Republican plan. My advice is to send the House bill back, pack our bags and go home and tell them to get serious, Norman said of Senate Republicans. That math doesnt work out. Theyve added $670 something billion dollars, Norman said. Shortly after Normans comments, Johnson huddled with Norman and fellow Rules committee and House Freedom Caucus member Chip Roy (R-Texas) in a room outside the committee. Asked whether July 4 is still a realistic deadline for getting the bill to President Donald Trumps desk, Johnson said, Well see what happens in the next 24 hours. ... Copied to Clipboard!

House left in limbo as megabill talks continue Republican holdouts on the Senate-passed version of the partys big, beautiful bill are huddling with House GOP leaders, who are holding open a vote to move the legislation forward as they negotiate. The procedural vote remained stuck more than 90 minutes after it was first called. Seven Republicans have yet to vote, and several of them are gathered in a room off the House floor where Speaker Mike Johnson and other top leaders have been shuffling in and out. Placating those hard-line fiscal hawks could be the final test of whether Republicans can send the massive domestic-policy bill to President Donald Trumps desk before his arbitrary July 4 deadline. Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), a member of the House Freedom Caucus, said his fellow holdouts on the megabill are deciding between voting it down and sending it back [to the Senate] or getting our questions answered from the White House and supporting it. He added that discussions surround what the administration can do to implement the Senate bill in ways that would assuage the concerns conservatives have put forth. White House budget director Russ Vought arrived at the room around 3:45 p.m. to walk through how the White House could find future spending cuts and how the administration plans implement the policies in the megabill especially around rollbacks to federal food aid and clawbacks of clean-energy tax credits. A key GOP holdout, Rep. Chip Roy of Texas, said in a Fox News interview that he was trying to go through the bill and understand it after railing against a number of the Senates changes. I will note that I have now gotten a little bit more information on some of the Medicaid stuff that I feel like its a little bit better than I originally anticipated, but I still have concerns, he said, citing massive reservations about the Green New Scam subsidies and the overall spending levels. ...
