Human Warrior (contrary to the write-up below, done on another day) Assault of Hexed Faith Conquest ~ Conquest? (Again??) Xak: The Art of Visual Stage (X68000) - Upsky of Fire Land receives rank 22 of 39. Playing in the background, my reaction was "is this a PC-98 track?" and it's the X68000, instead, so that tracks. Has the energy to feel like it comes out of something Falcom-adjacent. It's basically impossible for me to not like a composition like this, but I think I draw the line at like. 6.5/10 planetarian ~the reverie of a little planet~ - Human Warrior receives rank 27 of 40. This isn't a visual novel. This has to be a racing game. There's no way a track like this is playing in a freaking VN. Is the purple-haired girl secretly a race car, a la Pretty Derby? Because this has to be playing during a night time track with slick, tight turns as the city's skylights whiz by. 6/10 Shadow Hearts: From The New World - SABBATH ~ Devil's Banquet receives rank 38 of 41. S~DB is a really angry song. This is one part middle-eastern, one part metal, and two parts horror game blended together, and I guess it kinda works? It's definitely not my thing, though. 5.2/10 Alice Gear Aegis - Assault of Hexed Faith receives rank 21 of 42. I'm torn on this track. There are parts I really like, and there are parts that feel ripped out of songs I don't enjoy nearly as much. I like energy, but AoHF is maybe a little too frenetic? My opinion is kinda all over the place as a result. 6.6/10 Fire Emblem Awakening - Conquest ~ Conquest (Ablaze) receives rank 41 of 43. A FE:A song that isn't Id or DSHN? Out of the bombastic songs and the "Ocean's Gray Waves" songs, this one falls into the latter camp. (FE doesn't have anything else.) The Calm half of this track is chill...and yet, the fact that the title specifically says "Ablaze" makes me think I should only be evaluating the second half. The drums and bass work for me, but the rest of Ablaze is kinda mid. 5/10 (Wow, I know I've been trying to be a little more generous with my ratings, but what does it say that only two tracks so far are below a 5?) Outburst 4D - FUTURE EXPRESS receives rank 43 of 44. Perhaps I spoke too soon. I don't dislike Future Express, per se, but Zuntata compositions are usually not my thing. Not really sure why. They just don't hit a groove for me. There's nothing Future Express does wrong, but I just don't really feel anything when listening to it. 4.8/10 --- Only the exceptions can be exceptional. ... Upsky of Fire Land Assault of Hexed Faith FUTURE EXPRESS As is normally the case for Awakening songs, I prefer the Ablaze version of Conquest. Its a keep pushing forward song thats not at all one-dimensional, with the drums moving around everywhere. The strings in this version of the melody are a powerful driving force too, echoing deeply each time theyre played. This poll is a shutout for team human. The only one thats even a question is Turks vs. Crows (which is also the best match in the poll, and one well probably see decided for real).
