Remember seeing Deja Foxx blow up like, 3 days ago. Made a surprisingly big splash, but probably made that splash way too late to make an impact. Not surprised at this result.

As an AZ resident(not this district) Foxx was blowing up on my algorithm. She was all surface level tho and it was basically "I'm young vote for me".

This is a good win.

I voted for Foxx, but I don't mind having Grijalva win. If this was ranked choice she would be my 2nd pick

Here's how the New York Times is framing the victory of someone endorsed by AOC in Arizona: as a defeat for Mamdani

Foxx looks fairly progressive (based on her wiki profile).

That is...

Such bizarre framing. Elections are idiosyncratic. Mamdani's a likable dude and his opponent was a corrupt pervert. Grijalva is normal and up against a random activist. and had a famous last name in the district!. Grijalva's dad is the previous congressman, that's big!

I don't see how that applies to anything in this election?

Adlita Grijalva will likely be just like her dad was.

It's incredibly bad framing as we all know but I suppose it still should be said:

-Mamdani was an up and coming politician who had served 2 terms in the state legislature. His opponent was a billionaire-endorsed disgraced and corrupt former governor who also sexually harassed and assaulted women

-Deja Foxx was an influencer who never held public office and whose opponent was a progressive local politician with an established progressive track record and also had the endorsement of the nation's most prominent progressive politicians

Not even remotely close to the same thing

I agree that she doesn't have any experience in politics, and she's a model/influencer.. I I haven't looked much upon her competitor who won.

She's a former county board of Supervisos and School District member, plus the daughter of the late Rep. Raul Grijalva.

The dishonest framing is the stuff about Mamdani - yes, he had a good social media presence, but he was a local politician. It's not like he was some dude on Instagram who just blew up and got himself into the candidacy for mayor. After college, he worked as a foreclosure/eviction counselor trying to keep people in their homes, and then he served two turns in the NY State Assembly.

Comparing him to Deja Foxx, who does not appear to have ever had a *job*, is incredibly dishonest, but no surprise from the NYT

It should be noted here that being part of a County's Board of Supervisors means "you were a part of the committee which makes decisions which run the county", and that usually includes allocating funds for public services, overseeing where tax revenue goes, and overseeing things like utilities, public safety, and sanitation. You know, stuff that's kinda boring and dull but also incredibly important.

Also, I'd like to see this, but the field for the seat is extremely crowded. Hopefully, his prior name recognition can help him here.

Yeah, it's huge. But he's been wracking up endorsements and constantly attending events.

who knows? Maybe the field'll be split so much that Abughazaleh pulls it off but I think smart money is on the popular mayor of Evanston IMO

Being (a popular) mayor of Evanston is actually a pretty good deal to North Shore residents. I feel I should know the answer to this question, but: how's Biss doing with North Shore Jews? They're not nearly as powerful as they once were with the influx of Muslim immigrants, but they still hold a lot of sway over here.

Good question. I need to ask some folks from Skokie, but I'm seeing good buzz on Biss throughout.

Some of the financials are telling, too. One of the biggest issues with Kat's campaign that's a flag for her chances are that most of her donors are from out of state whereas Biss is raising money from in the district. Laura Fine's not doing too bad either.

Political dynasties aren't good, but there's no way to ban them that's constitutional.

And in this race, Deja Foxx wasn't a good candidate. Grijalva was the best choice in the race.
