1. the Tea app was a bad idea and an invasion of privacy,
2. AND this hack is going to result in significantly worse things happening to the women in it than the men. The ones behind this hack are not good people and this is not a good development for the world

By what I heard, the "hack" was just checking the database which was on a public database and then proceeded to download everything.

Maybe there's a lesson about using apps that requires every single type of ID of the user here, especially when vibecoding is getting popular and you have 0 idea what kind of security measures they do employ to protect your data.

If even bigger companies which supposedly have better securities for personal data gets breached all the time (Sony), imagine a project like that.

I'm generally against apps that demand this much info about me exactly because of that, and also why I'm mostly against those kind of regulations thrown by UK where they want to put face scans and ID on everything.

This is pretty much my take on it as well.

Any centralized database with people's ID information in it is going to get compromised, probably within a few minutes of starting up.

If you're a man that's worried about what women may be saying about you then I don't think this app matters at all in the slightest, because women already do that. Get as mad about the app as much as you want but the underlying behavior still exists. If you're a man and you've managed to secure a date with a woman from a dating site/app within the last decade or more then chances are already extremely high that you've been vetted with lots of public/private available information. Women already comb through the social media profiles of their prospective dates, they already post about you on their local "are we dating the same man?" Facebook group, and they already dig into whatever information they can find on whichever database they can look into about you.
