I don't understand how so many Americans still don't grasp tarriffs.

If it costs Nintendo more money to get a Switch into the United States, then it's going to cost consumers more money to buy one. It's that simple.

Okay, this is weird...why is the Switch 1 the only thing increasing in price? Why hasn't the Switch 2 been affected as well? Has there every been a time when the previous console went up in price after their successor was released?

1) not get potential purchasers of their new system annoyed/mad

2) use the situation to make the switch 2 seem like a better purchase

Exactly. They knew something was coming (not exact specifics) when the price was set. Switch 1 was priced long ago.

Eventually these countries will agree to some sort of negotiation, either a slightly modified version of what was in place before or they'll agree to import more trucks and oil. The worst part is that prices won't go back down and MAGA will think it was a great victorious show of US strength and Trump's genius business brain...when in actuality it will be a desperate move to prevent the US economy from jumping off a cliff and taking everybody else's with it.

So I assumed that the prices would be marked up in retailers, not like a tax at the register, just that the price would go up.

Most manufacturers get to set the price range that a retailer can sell their product in. That's what the MSRP (Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price) is. It's to make sure that the manufacturer can make an actual profit on their product, while using the retailer as a middleman or distributor for said product and also letting them get a cut of the action.

Even when this isn't the case and the retailer is free to set their own prices, both parties involved want to make a profit. The manufacturer isn't going to sell their product to the retailer for less than it costs to create, ship, and import the product, including tariffs. And the retailer isn't going to resell that product they just purchased for less than they spent to purchase it from the manufacturer. In the end, all the cost ends up passed on to the consumer, who is paying for the item's base price AND additional markup to ensure both the manufacturer and retailer get to profit off the purchase.

Was this posted yet? I read that Target had the new (or what people assume are the new) prices up, but I also read that they reversed it and they're currently back to the old prices. Can't be arsed to check out their store website right now to confirm, myself.

Game key cards being a thing that even exists sure isn't going to make me move faster on it.

As much as I love fire emblem it better be some kind of great since this would be the main game to get me to budge.

I'm pretty sure these will go away if people just refuse to buy the games that incorporate them, just like how we beat online passes back in the Xbox 360/PS3 generation.

It doesn't help that the media in general did a poor job of explaining how they work before the election. That's not to say that voters couldn't have sought out that information instead of taking Trump's (wrong) explanation at face value. They could have. But it would have been better if the outlets that are supposedly there to keep people informed had done a better job of informing them.

Ok, Xbox raised their prices in the US. But PS5 did not. We're not talking about UK or Brazil as they don't have tariffs on Japan (or do they?).

Sony increased the prices in Europe and South America in order to offset the tariffs from the US which is even worse since the US is the main cause of it. And they're likely to do it eventually anyway.

One thing that is frustrating is Canadians are getting hit with Nintendo price increases too, they apparently ship product to the USA and then ship to Canada from there. They really should start shipping to the Port of Vancouver and have a warehouse in the region to supply Canada instead of routing everything through the States.

Parts come from different places. Some are those are places with higher tarrifs. When you export something thats a factor .
